Great book for a collector!, January 12, 2010
This review is from: The Beatles: On Camera, Off Guard 1963-69 (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
I got this book for Christmas. What a great Christmas it was! I have 200 books about The Beatles and some of them are great, others are unnecessary. This is one of the great ones! A collection of unseen, candid photos of The Beatles. Every one a gem. The DVD that is included is Region 2, but I have a region free DVD player, so viewing it was no problem at all and is a nice bonus. Die-hard Beatles collector? Buy this book!

Great Gift!, January 24, 2010
This review is from: The Beatles: On Camera, Off Guard 1963-69 (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
I purchased this item for a Beatles fanatic, and he has been nothing but pleased with what he's received. He loves the rare footage found in the included DVD, and he has loved reading the various facts in the colorful pages of the text. I highly recommend this purchase for the Beatles fan in your life.

Grab-bag of Beatles Pix!, May 27, 2010
This review is from: The Beatles: On Camera, Off Guard 1963-69 (Book & DVD) (Hardcover)
Memorabilia collector/author Mark Hayward and England's Pavilion Books offer up 204 pages of never-been-seen-before snaps of the Fab Four in this 2009 release. Made up of photographs taken by professional and amateur photogs, it's a mixed bag but Beatles fans will love it nevertheless.
After a few elementary school snaps, Haywards presents the photographs arranged chronologically. The images show JPG&R performing at various shows, posing for PR shots, 'on tour' & 'on vacation' snaps, accepting awards and general 'looning about' photos. Each section is captioned by Hayward so the reader knows who-what-when-where-and-why.
As mentioned, the quality varies from excellent to amateurish. A number of shots are grainy, some are poorly composed, etc...BUT, since they are ultra-rare shots, will any Beatles fan give a rip??
To be honest, I wouldn't cough up $40.00 for THE BEATLES ON CAMERA, OFF GUARD, 1963-1969 but I enjoyed paging through the copy I got from my local library! It does show a side of the Fabs us mere mortals seldom saw. Recommended.
