Gr 5 Up--Yet another biography about the group whose ever-continuing popularity is unassailable. Unfortunately, it is a retread of everything so far written about the Beatles. The incidents and dialogue that Woog relates prompt a sense of deja vu, and boxed sidebars simply repeat large chunks of text taken from the source material. The writing is merely serviceable. The titles in the list for further reading give deeper insight into the musical phenomenon that was the Beatles than this one does. The numerous black-and-white photos have also appeared elsewhere. There is no discography. Marvin Martin's The Beatles (Watts, 1996) has a more original approach to the subject.

This review is from: The Beatles (Importance of) (Hardcover)
This book is riddled with inaccuracies. Some of the most glaring have been included below:1. John's mother Julia remarried and she abandoned her son and never saw him again. 2. Paul was right-handed except when learning guitar because he was a left-handed guitar player. 3. George Harrison soon realized that he had no talent for the guitar...it took him years before he could keep up with Lennon and McCartney who were "gifted musically." 4. Ringo's first appearance on a Beatles album was on 1966's Revolver. His face was superimposed on that of his predecessor, Pete Best. In late 1965 when Rubber Soul was released, Best asked John Lennon why his [Pete's] nose looked so large. 5. George Martin won George Harrison in a poker game because the youngest Beatle played in the Dave Clark 5, another popular British Invasion band. There are more, but you get the general idea. There is no excuse for this kind of thing. Save your money and buy other Beatle biographies instead.

This book was just OK. It didn't exactly have a section on Ringo.
