4.0 out of 5 stars Lounge Beatles, March 6, 2001
This review is from: The Beatles For Jazz Piano (Paperback)
If you are used to the standard arrangements in Beatles Songbooks and want something new this is a good book to try. This is a piano solo book, with chord symbols, no lyrics. The songs are arranged with more extended chords and some substitutions, as compared with the usual arrangements. Not all the songs are in the keys the Beatles played them in. However, the arrangements are complete and you can play them as is. They do not include any written out improvisation; however, you have some fresh chords to improvise over. Some of the songs sound good adding a jazz swing feel others don't. Some of the songs sound a little strange at first with the extended chords but grow on you. This book is at an intermediate level.

The following songs are included: Get Back, All My Loving, And I Love Her, Eleanor Rigby, The Fool on the Hill, Here There and Everywhere, Michelle, Nowhere Man, Strawberry Fields Forever, With A Little Help from My Friends,

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Collection of Arrangements At A Most Reasonable Price, June 6, 2008

This review is from: The Beatles For Jazz Piano (Paperback)
For those seeking to learn, explore or compare less fundemental chording and phrashing, this excellent choice of materials and generally interesting arrangements brings a fresh approach to the music of lennon and mccartney; makes a fine gift for that musician seeking out to broaden wingspan--it's interesting that those who wrote these arrangements probably could make endless circles around the limited technical knowledge of the original composers; such genius seems all the more radiant considering such limitations--reminds me of errol garner who, upon completing the classic misty, gave it to arrangers to put on staff paper for him--

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Jazz Arragements for All Levels, July 17, 2010

This book of arrangements make a nice addition to any Pop/Jazz collection. The difficulty of the pieces in this book range from a high beginner level to a mid intermediate level of difficulty. The pieces retain their original melody, but the underlying chords are altered at different intensities from song to song. The popularity of the tunes makes them fun to both practice and present to others.

This is a nice collection of Beatles songs, arranged in a jazz style. It's moderately hard and fun to play, with unusual chords and modulation.

The song book came in a timely fashion and packaged well. It was sent to Australia as a gift and mail is very slow to cruise ships, so I don't know how the person liked it yet. It looked like a very fine book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable arrangements, July 20, 2011

I am a huge Beatles fan and have heard some jazz arrangements of Beatles songs on the radio before, so when I saw this book, I bought it immediately. I am not a great piano player by any means, but with practice can play advanced beginner and some intermediate level music, so this book definitely challenges me. I found these same arrangements played on Youtube, which made it much easier to know how they were supposed to sound -- that was a big help for me. I'd recommend the book for sure.

This is a mid-range great book. I've just recently started taking piano lessons after having been away from the piano for 15+ years. This was a great book to have, because it kept me interested and I love the Beatles music. The arrangements are great and it wasn't too difficult to follow.
