Book Description

January 1, 2002
In the 60s, before the legend was fully formed, The Beatles were sometimes unguarded and often indiscreet in their comments. Members of their entourage would express frank opinions that in later years they sometimes softened or denied altogether. Now these original raw remarks have been unearthed and re-assembled in a vivid verbal documentary shot through with the authentic flavour of The Beatles in their heyday and the 60s musical scene they dominated.

'It might actually make you dislike Paul and John at points. It will certainly open your eyes. This is truly one Beatles book you need.' Record Collector --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars For all dedicated Beatles fans, October 14, 2001
In The Beatles Off The Record, Keith Badman has assembled an impressive, 496 page compendium of unrehearsed interviews and outrageous opinions by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Their sometimes iconoclastic commentaries on the personalities, events, and issues of the day are arranged chronologically by year beginning with the opening chapters "When I Was A Boy" (covering pre-1960) and "The Hamburg Treadmill (1960) down through "Apple Crumble" (1969) and "The End" (1970). A massive undertaking, The Beatles Off The Record is a unique, essential, core title for all dedicated Beatles fans and reveals these four young men from Liverpool as no other book ever has -- or could!

5.0 out of 5 stars A WORK OF ART -- STEAK AND CHAMPAGNE, March 25, 2001
This book is calculated to delight any die hard Beatles' fan as well as anyone fortunate to read it. The photographs and wealth of information are essential for any Beatles' fan to have; the text alone is invaluable.

Although the release of this book coincided with the "Beatles Anthology," the poor timing does not in any way diminish the significance and high caliber of this book. This is something so worth reading that I can't recommend it highly enough. It is something to savor WITH "The Beatles Anthology," not INSTEAD of it. It is like having steak and champagne; both are excellent, but TOGETHER makes for a very nice package.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!!, December 30, 2000
By A Customer
Although as not lavishly illustrated as Anthology, this book follows the structure of The Beatles : After the Break-Up 1970-2000 : A Day-By-Day Diary , by the same author. The beauty of this book resides in its simplicity and wealth of information. A perfect companion for the The Beatles : After the Break-Up. Release this book at same time of Anthology was their mistake, bad timing, but make no mistake the book is a must!
