Book Description

May 1, 1988
Originally published as the official companion to the 1978/88 exhibition at the Tate Gallery, this beautiful book explores the art of Beatrix Potter. The influences of contemporary artists, her flowering as an artist and a writer of books for children, and her later life as farmer and conservationist are all demonstrated through more than 450 colour and black-and-white reproductions of her work. The authoritative text, combined with attractive layout, full index and source list make this a most comprehensive book on one of the greatest twentieth century children's authors and artists.

5.0 out of 5 stars early photos, biography, artistic background, March 3, 2009

This review is from: Beatrix Potter: The Artist and Her World 1866-1943 (Paperback)
This book is interesting for so many reasons: the development of a precocious artist, the world she grew up in, natural history, and publishing. I really enjoyed the early photographs of Potter and her family, as well as the many sketches and works rarely seen by those who know only her children's books.

I have this book as well as many others regarding Beatrix Potter. However, this book is my favourite and really goes into depth about her life. If you are a true Beatrix Potter fan, you shouldn't be without it.
