5.0 out of 5 stars Kitty Craft knows how to Kick it!, May 6, 2000

I bought this after a review from CMJ, all I can say is this album was on my top 10 for 1999. kindercore records has a jewel with this girl. It's a shame she hasen't put out a follow up since. Imagine Burt Bacharach mixed with Portishead and an old hip hop album and you have Kitty Craft. Want to impress your girlfriend with some cool music and show her your sensitive side? Kitty Craft is the answer! Simple backbeats, cool samples (Mama's Lamp has a sample from "The little rascals"!), and pretty vocals makes this album all good baby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep It to Yourself ..., March 20, 2000
This review is from: Beats & Breaks From the Flower Patch (Audio CD)
This exercise in pilfered samples launched over repetitive drumbeats and vaguely coherent vocals turns me on so much more than any Beck record ever could. None of the samples are credited but all seem to come from either late 60's R&B platters or early 70's schmaltzers. When expertly melded with the lowest form of today's drum technology even the campiest of moments delivers potently.

3.0 out of 5 stars original unoriginality, May 11, 2004
This review is from: Beats & Breaks From the Flower Patch (Audio CD)
kitty craft takes drum machine hiphop beats- a ton of old vinyl samples-throws in indiegirl vocals- and comes up with a fun record. With hints of r+b-acid jazz-motown soul she comes across like an early female beck.(thats the best description anyone could give) I deducted two stars because of rather weak flat vocals that are mixed too low in the mix( shes not really a good singer and some songs are screaming for more soul) and the fact that kitty craft gave no credit to the warehouse full of old samples she stole and used in her music. A creative use is one thing but not giving credit to the countless horns-melodys and riffs by old 60s and 70 artists shows no integrity.(and fear of lawsuits). The samples are great- i actually think i would have enjoyed this cd more without the vocals. (Good summertimeheadnodding laidback music). Still its good enough to where im looking for her other record so all my moral posturing on samples and vocal complaints are moot when ill slap down another ten for her other cd Catskills. GEt these now before kindercore records gets sued into oblivion!
