4.0 out of 5 stars Velly Interestinck!
I just finished Ms. Reddy's science fiction novel, Beau Zen. This story seemed, to me, like a blend of an English high court drama and Star Wars. Zen is a very young genius- gorgeous, entrepenurial, and gifted with the ability to get an immediate patent on almost anything he invents.
Reva is captain of the ship, the Gloria JeJune and, after the death of a princess,...

1.0 out of 5 stars not great
very boring and slow did not live up to the discription. Needed more detail and character development. Story has potential but it needs development.

Reva is captain of the ship, the Gloria JeJune and, after the death of a princess, the heir of the title, Hand of the Court. The elderly princess is killed when her heir, the prince Aravin, is kidnapped. For years he is held, enhtralled and mutilated...in the grip of a mad-woman and a deadly drug.
Now, Beau Zen and the fem captain Reva will rescue the prince and rid the universe of this new and evil drug.

Positives-
this is a snappy story with some excellent world-building
there are quite a few nice action (battle) scenes
there is a mostly positive and upbeat plot-line

Negatives-

There is an unusual approach to dialogue in this novel, that Ms. Reddy staunchly defends as the thinking woman's approach...words and actions seem to fly as quickly as thought itself! I can see what she's saying, however, this approach may not work for every reader. I, for one, tend to like things nice and slow... maybe I'm one of those who need to be led by the nose-hairs, so I know, without a doubt, who is talking, when, and where, and what they're doing while their chatting it up!

If you're not afraid of an unusual, stylistic approach to dialogue you may enjoy this sexy, sci/fi adventure.
