5.0 out of 5 stars Only for the true Disco lover, not the fakes
I had forgotten about this incredible gem until one night recently at a NYC niteclub the DJ started spinning "That's the Meaning". The crowd and the vibe were hysterical in what was an orgasmic aureal of layered sounds and beats. If your disco favorites are Donna Summer and Peaches and Herb I suggest you skip this and continue on in an unelightened vein,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Bend CD
I placed the order a month ago and have yet to receive the product. To be honest with you I am a little disappointed in the seller and that Amazon would allow a seller that doesn't follow through on a purchase.

If your disco favorites are Donna Summer and Peaches and Herb I suggest you skip this and continue on in an unelightened vein, however, if you want to hear what was REALLY played at Studio then this is for you! You just can't get any closer to the velvet rope than this!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of Eurodisco, December 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful Bend (Audio CD)
Producer Boris Midney makes hard beats orbit and swirl around - very spatial and seductive. The music inclines toward abstraction in "Boogie Motion" and "Make That Feeling Come Again". Midney's emphasis is on the melodies rather than on the lyrics, especially in "Make That Feeling Come Again". The album's Music pluses and virtues by far outweigh the numerous drawbacks of everything and anything pertaining to the lyrics.

This album is one of Midney's finest.

Ah, WHAT CAN I SAY...
SUPERB!!!!!!! SIMPLY "PERFECT". FOR THE TRUE DISCO LOVER. THIS LP IS FOR "DANCERS" AND THE "THINKING" LISTENER. THE ENTIRE LP TAKES NO.2 SPOT ON MY TOP 50 DISCO SONGS LIST, COCOMoTION -(EL COCO)takes #1. This is unique, there's no other Disco music which sounds like this. "BEAUTIFUL BEND" STANDS ALONE AND IT'S JUS THAT... "BEAUTIFUL"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Is this Midney's best...or the 2d US A-European Connection??, August 21, 2001

Ah, choices, choices...swirling forever, like the string charts of "MAKE THAT FEELING COME AGAIN!"

Either is a faboo first spin for Boris newbies. For me, "USA-European" is his only album with truly brilliant moments. Yet "Beautiful Bend" is uniquely effortless-sounding, beginning with the intro to "That's the Meaning," ending half an hour later with the hedonistic promise of all disco records, delivered by only a very few others: that it would all last forever. Circuit morning music par excellence!

Note: Although they are listed as two compositions, "That's the Meaning/Boogie Motion" and "Make That Feeling Come Again/Ahh Do It!" are, in fact, a single continuous track, as a good stereo reveals. Does that make this the longest disco record ever? Hmmm...that's one hella rap!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, under-appreciated music, June 26, 2000

Boris Midney, one of the most inspired of disco producers, released records under many names but it is this one, Beautiful Bend, that I think stands as his most accomplished production. The four "songs" are different in mood and intensity, yet blend seamlessly into one another, the peak being the stunning, symphonic "Make That Feeling Come Again!" This record may well have been a significant influence on much of today's dance music, except that Midney combines the machine-made rhythms and synths with real percussion, strings, vocals, and knockout melodies. The album is a nearly flawless example of how old-school disco reveled in the new technology while retaining the warmth and glow of the human touch. This is electronic disco that sounds made by people, not machines. "Beautiful Bend" is full of ideas and melodic changes, not just one hiccupping riff. "Make That Feeling Come Again!" swirls and builds and breaks, only to swirl and build again, like ocean waves, and features two incredibly beautiful melodic hooks. I bought this record when it was new in 1978, and I have played it consistently through all the years in between. The CD re-mastering is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Stylish with attractive melodies!!!, June 30, 2001
By A Customer

I am not familiar with Boris Midney, but his musical creations were no stranger to me. I remember hearing "Boogie Motion" every week on Dance Fever(hustle competition show) back in the 70's. From the first time I heard it I was drawn to the stylish and cutesy melodies. It sounds even better when "That's the Meaning starts off in the beginning blending into "Boogie Motion" sounding like one long fantasic song. These 2 songs were very popular back in the disco days and remain favorable up until this day! "Make that feeling come again" is so beautiful with it's grand combination of disco and charismatic orchestral symphonies! This is the most instrumental of all tunes dramatic yet flowing and exotic. "Ah-Do it" comes right in afterwards very nice! The last 2 songs didn't recieve hardly any airplay overall I think Beautiful Bend's music was over looked. Some people refer to this kind of music as "guido disco" calling it cheesy and bubblegum sounding. Obviously "these people" don't have taste or appreciate good music. "BB" is in the same melodic family as Voyage,The Ritchie Family and Cerrone which I also own. If you like eurodisco as I do,you will play this over and over again!!! This is definitely a eurodisco masterpiece!!!

Boris Midney's Beautiful Bend is an incredible work of art. Make That Feeling Come Again is without a doubt, one of the most incredible sound experiences ever. No wonder it went to No. 1 on the Disco charts. It can't get any better than this. The highest rating possible for just about the most perfect song ever.....Make That Feeling Come Again....Pure Heaven!!!!!!

Beautiful Bend is, actually, a beautiful album. It contains some tracks well known to disco afficionados of the 70's, although it stands better as an example of home listening than club music. "Ah Do It" has the most groove, and "Boogie Motion"...was it the theme song to Denny Terio's tv dance contest? The songs are constructed in sophisticated ways and gorgeously orchestrated. The female vocals are rather bland and absent of personality, strained by the naive lyrics and shallow syntax that so often come with European composers of this era. The music shows a definite point of view and artist's approach, making it one of the better examples of Euro-disco.

Back in the day, this was my absolute favorite disco song (That's the Meaning!), Souvenirs was another fav . I had the album and it rarely left my turntable :-)

So glad they remastered it and of course i scooped it up right away at this price.

If you remember, hanging out at Decameron's on LI or Uncle Sams, you will love this CD, really brought back memories of my ahem....younger days; ones that I am glad I was alive for! What a time that was and what great music.
