About the Author

As a professional textile artist, Helen Deighan has been making quilts since 1984. Initially working from existing patterns, she soon started developing her own designs. And, when she couldn't find the right colour or shade to fit - she dyed her own. Over the past ten years she has created many exciting dyeing effects using everyday household objects - from cat litter trays and drain pipes to her now famous plastic freezer bags! Helen's latest passion is designing and making textile coil pots.

I own 8 other kumihimo books, and would heartily recommend this be added to anyone's kumihimo library. It walks you through several different braids on the disk and plate, rather than just endless color variations on the same round braid as some other books do. So if you are looking for some different structures or ways to play with the braids, you should check this out. As another reviewer on this site noted, the plate/square disk used for reference in this book is the Hamanaka brand which has a different slot layout than the Beadsmith brand, which is more common in the US. If you have a Beadsmith plate, you will need to follow the diagrams rather than the numbering guide for the instructions, but it's not that difficult to do.

I have been reading through the book and it has some great braids. The zigzags look very nice. They don't seem very hard.

Love the book but there is nothing easy about it. Shipping was very prompt and the price was o.k. I would recommend this book to someone a little more advanced than the beginner stage.

I havent really used the patterns yet... I had the plate, but it was numbered differently, so got the different plate...
I did contact the author and she said I could use the first plate... nobody in my family could figure it out... so if you are going to buy the book, get the plate that goes to 12.
