Book Description

When life's always been a mess, can you still turn it into something beautiful?

Jace Riley’s close connection with his identical twin brother, Jaxon, is put to the test when he tries to choose between keeping his promises and following his heart. Is this girl that still haunts his dreams, even after four years, really worth it? Jace can’t help but wonder if he made a huge mistake all that time ago when he let her walk into someone else’s arms, especially since that someone was his twin.

Audrey Mills often wonders at what point she should throw her hands up in defeat and allow all of the horrible circumstances of her life to overtake her. Despite the demons she has faced, however, something inside her won’t give in. When she leaves her small town in Texas to attend college in California, Audrey runs into the one guy who could make her or break her. But is the past they share too painful for them to overcome?

This is the second book in the broken series, it's recommended you read Beautiful Broken Rules before Beautiful Broken Mess.

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

I'm a wanderer, an adventurer, a traveler. I want to see it all. I haven't been everywhere but it's on my list. "She travels the world & home is always in her heart." Lately if I'm not traveling or chasing a toddler, I'm writing. Which is weird because I hated writing in college. Oh wait, that's because that was boring. Who really wants to sit there and cite all your sources into APA format? Not this girl. Writing for yourself is enjoyable and cathartic. Please try it. Then tell me about because I love indie authors. I'm a Texas girl, who misses living in Europe!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars. Jace's story! November 11, 2013
By K. Bias
Format:Kindle Edition
(Quote)To say it simply, my life is a broken mess. In the back of my mind, I often wonder if people are given a set number of obstacles they have to overcome before they die. If that were the case, then hopefully I've already hit my limit for this lifetime.

Audrey's life has been one big convoluted mess after another. She just keeps getting knocked down and the twins Jace and Jaxon are all mixed up in her past and present.

One meeting changed them. One mistake broke them. And another started off a set of events that ended in disaster. She tried to make it right, but the truth was never really understood or accepted. But four years later, it is finally all being brought to the surface and exposed.

When we met Audrey in Beautiful Broken Rules, she was portrayed like a difficult problem that they did not want to deal with and was unwelcome in their lives. She seemed to be there to mess up Jaxon's new relationship and pissed off Jace too. I just was not sure how this would play out and I really did not think I would like her. But in this one, we see the broken, unsure Audrey who had strong feelings and could never really get Jace out of her head. Yes Jace...not Jaxon. We see all that happened from her side and her version is so much different. She is not the evil manipulative witch. She has fought all of her life, and now is finally fighting to be happy.

Jace was so hurt by her years ago that it was easier to avoid her. And every time they got close to possibly fixing it over the years, it all got messed up again. But he is finally seeing that he made mistakes as well and that things are not always what they seemed. I really adored Jace in the first book and in this one too. He could be so sweet, loyal, and caring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story but a few frustrations...3.5 stars November 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Enjoyed the story but here are a few things that kept me from loving it...

1. I love an alpha male, but Jace was over the top. If another male so much as looked at Audrey, he threatened to beat them up. What happened to our sweet Jace? I felt he was a ticking time bomb for most of this story.

2. Do these characters EVER use their cellphones? I don't know how many times someone tried to contact a person and they 'conveniently' didn't have their phone on them. This goes back to the first book, but many conflicts could've been solved if they called/texted one another. For example, when Audrey went to talk with Jace and stayed at his apartment for a few weeks. She waited and waited to talk with him, but because he hid out at Em's place she never got the chance. Umm...why didn't she send a quick text saying "Can we talk for a few minutes?" Jace was polite to her up to that point, he would've done it. But instead we get months upon months of avoiding each other.

3. I'm a sucker for HEA which is why I read romance. However, this was all wrapped up with such a nice, pretty bow that I had to roll my eyes. Everything turned out so perfectly for all of them so quickly that it didn't seem believable to me.

I enjoyed seeing Jaxon and Emerson again, but there were a few things that kept me from giving this 5 stars. I will read Lane's story because I do like this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Perfect! November 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I absolutely LOVED Beautiful Broken Rules and was extremely excited for Jace's story! Once I realized that Audrey was going to be one of the main characters, I wasn't too sure I would like this story as much...because the first book pretty much set you as a she-devil in my eyes.

From the first page of this story, I knew I was immediately wrong and fell in love with Audrey. She has had a pretty rough childhood and after reading her story, I realized how much of a strong woman she was. Yes, she made mistakes BUT those events made her the person she was today. could you NOT love him? He's such a strong, passionate, caring person and I loved reading their story through his eyes as well. He loved Audry from their first "run in".

Beautiful story, I couldn't put it down!!!! I cried, laughed, swooned and smiled throughout this book and can't wait to read about Lane....oh Lane!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-breakingly beautiful November 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
*I received an advanced copy of BBM for an honest review.*

Thank you Ms. Lauren for an early copy. I had been waiting eagerly for this book since I feel in love with BBR! Kimberly is one of my favorite authors and after reading her debut novel, I had high hopes for this next book.

And it doesn't disappoint.

I love that this book doesn't give the characters, Jace & Audrey, an easy journey. Audrey is a mess. A huge broken mess. You get a glimpse of her background immediately and can easily sympathize with her and what she's endured. We don't get all the information right away, making my feelings toward Audrey iffy.

Jace is the hot, control-freak brother of Jax, from BBR. I fell in love with Jax, hardcore!!! I was worried before I read this that Jace couldn't possibly live up to Jax, but he does and so much more!
Jace is a loyal friend. A loyal brother. And a loyal person. He has a difficult time disappointing anyone in his life that he loves. Because of this, he keeps his relationship with Audrey a secret. It's hot at first, the sneaking around, but after awhile, Audrey wants more.

What broke my heart throughout this story, is knowing that if only ONE thing had been different - their whole relationship would've worked out much much sooner. Because of Audrey's past, she doesn't communicate very well or let people in. Because of Jace's insecurities, he doesn't confront her. UGHHHH I wanted to scream at them both several times!!!!! I could almost feel my heart breaking into pieces at the realization of what happened and how just one little incident changed their relationship for 4 years....

The secondary characters in this book are fabulous! And I was happy to get more Jax and Emerson!! And I love love love Lane!
