Book Description

What happens when you create rules to keep others out?

One thing Emerson Moore has come to terms with is that she is the school slut. She knows her way around a frat house and how to get what she wants. She doesn’t make any excuses for her actions and she doesn’t pretend to be anything different. She is who she is and with that she knows how to have a good time. She’s made rules to keep relationships at bay and avoid the demons of her past.

When her best friend, Cole has his two friends from back home move in with him she begins to think she has met her match with Jaxon Riley. Jax is the perfect mixture of tattooed muscle and a sweet-talking mouth. With “hand” written notes, a voice that exudes sex and knowing just how to get under her skin, Jaxon learns how to break all the rules. But will he just end up breaking her heart anyway?

New Adult/Adult Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 18 and up.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Beautiful Broken Rules was a wonderfully addictive and romantic read with a bad boy hero who I promise you will fall for! There was heaps of swoon, awesome banter, and a delicious kind of angst that made my heart race and kept me flipping pages."  - Aestas Book Blog

"I'm not sure that I even know where to begin writing a review for this because it is truly an awesome experience. I loved everything about it - the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing, and the author's ability to tell me a story that had me wanting this book to go on and on." - Romantic Reading Escapes Book Blog

5.0 out of 5 stars A very different heroine and an imperfect hero May 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was fortunate enough to receive an arc after a friend recommended this book to me. I'm not sure that I even know where to begin writing a review for Beautiful Broken Rules because it is truly an awesome experience. I loved everything about it - the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing, and the author's ability to tell me a story that had me wanting this book to go on and on, never to end. I REALLY didn't want this book to end, because that meant I had to give up Jaxson and company. I actually feel as though I made friends with these characters. The characters drew me in and I wanted to stay in their little fictional world.

Jax and Emerson are not perfect. In fact, they are far from it, making them so very real and easy to connect with. Em is the girl next door ... well, the self-proclaimed (and rightfully so) slut next door ... who has well-thought-out and carefully placed rules for the men in her life:

1. I don't sleep with anyone that I know my friends like.

2. I don't sleep with anyone's boyfriend.

3. I never sleep with someone more than three times.

Everyone else is free game. She owns who she is and makes no excuses. Em is clearly not girlfriend material, and she just wants to have a good time without attachments or drama. Her rules also serve a greater purpose....protection. If you're not involved, you won't feel the pain of losing someone, because everyone eventually leaves and you're left with nothing more than a broken heart. Her attitude toward relationships isn't the result of a nasty breakup or past abuse. Her damage and attitude stems from a greater pain that she has experienced in her young life.

Em is the school slut. She knows it and has no problem sleeping around. But there are rules. Certain rules that she goes by so, she will never have to be put in a situation where, she will get attached or hurt.

The rules

#1. Never sleep with someone that a friend has feelings for.
#2. Never sleep with someone who is in a known relationship.
#3. Never sleep with someone more than three times.

Em, is very hard on her rules, never breaks them even if the guy is great in bed. She blocks up this wall around everyone so she won't get hurt, never shows her true feelings because of her past, the demons that have made her this girl.

Cole is Em's best friend, he lives in the same apartment complex then her and Quinn and now his two best friends from his home town are moving in with him, they all go to college together. Em meets Jax and he is drop dead makes your knees weak sexy.

I feel in love with Jax the moment Em laid eyes on him. Em has meet her match when it comes to sweet talking Jax. He is a ladies man where the girls just fall to their knees with his sexy voice.

Breaking down walls to try to be with Em, Jax throws his heart out there so many times, you just watch to bitch slap Em for not seeing it and being so damn scared.

These two almost gave me a damn heart attack worrying so much about what the other one is going to do.

"He finished quickly, closed my fingers into my palm and kissed them. I slowly uncurled them to read his message, which was written boldly across the expanse of my palm. One word that screamed a whole lot more.

MINE."

It has been awhile since I read a book that kept me up at night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable debut novel! May 14, 2013
By Nevaeh
Format:Kindle Edition
How about that cover? Hot, right? Of course I would like it, being the the self-professed hippie chick that I am (with a name like 'Nevaeh' are you really surprised?). Moving beyond the cover, the book is even hotter. Like hotter than Hades, hotter. And unbelievably, this is a debut novel. I still can't get over that!

After reading some fantastic novels lately with hard-hitting issues, I decided I needed something a little less serious and a little more fun. This was perfect! Of course, these two still had their own issues to deal with (don't we all?), but this was a much more sexy and light-hearted read....exactly what I needed.

Let's talk Emerson (Em, Emmy, Ems...). She was definitely a leading lady I liked, and trust me, I don't like many of them. If you are sick and tired of the virginal college girls who can't make a decision to save their life, then you will love Emerson. She is unabashedly...well, for lack of a better term, slutty. But in a good way, as in there is a method to the madness.

"I'm very open about who I am, I don't pretend not to sleep with guys and I don't deny when I have done just that. I've accepted who I am. The girl who will never become serious about anyone, who will enjoy life, have fun with guys along the way and never get her heart broken."

Jaxon Riley ("Jax"): Mmm, mmm, mmm. And Lord have mercy, there are two of him.

"The black leather jacket looked like felt like butter on his shoulders and his skin was tanned just enough to make his ice blue eyes pop. His hair was such a warm dark brown, with a few natural highlights spread throughout it, it called for fingers to run through it....His face had just a little bit of scruff to add that rougher look to him. He was definitely no pretty California boy.

I found this book to be a fun, quick read. Enjoyed a heroine that wasn't a simpering virgin dependent upon her man for all things sex related. Two thumbs up.
