I like this product because it is the closest thing to the loving care that was discontinued. I can't use certain dyes because I am allergic to ppd in hair colors. So this is great.

Many reviews complain that this product stains hands, towels, wall paper, robes etc. This is why hair colorists use gloves and plastic capes! All semi-permanent or permanent tint is absolutely going to stain. Find a tinting shirt and use it over and over- let it stain. Have 2 towels for the same person, one to drape around you to catch any drips- one hand towel for your eyes or face. Use jaws to keep it up while tinting! If you have long hair and let it flop about, you are going to get it on everything! Use plastic jaws only, metal clips will react with tint. If you are going to comb it through for the last five minutes, step in your shower so you do not splatter on your woodwork and wallpaper, etc. While it is tinting. wipe off excess on ears and face, but you must cover this area, so do not wipe off the tint - reapply if you do. Some people use a face cream or even vaseline around hair line to keep it from tinting skin- I do not. That is too risky to leave spots of hair that will now not absorb tint. Look behind you and around after application and clean up any thing that splattered IMMEDIATELY. It will come off if you find it right away-but on the wall paper, your doomed. THIS IS NEVER COMING OUT OF FABRICS-if it does, you are just lucky. Assign yourself a tinting shirt, one with buttons is better, pulling over your head will make a mess. Don't use your robe- unless you don't care if you trash it. All tint is designed to be non-drip. Do use the plastic jaws- this will allow you to section it so you avoid overlap and hit the roots all over. It really is not difficult to do. It would help if you watched someone else section and apply tint. It will seem easier after you watch someone else do it. Buy those plastic jaws! Tinting HAS a learning curve!Read more ›

This product is fantastic for me with my scalp problems with most other hair color products.I have a extremely bad reaction to most other colors I have used ,but not with Clairol Beautiful.I also leave it on a lot longer than the directions say,and then it takes very well and lasts quite a long time. This is a life saver for me,as I do not want to let my hair go grey yet,as I feel it ages me.I will continue to use this product

Like Madonna, I like to change my hair color all the time (ok, so maybe lately she's kept blonde? hehe).

I used to use permanents but what a pain when I get a color, then I don't like it after a few weeks, change it, and repeat cycle until my hair is fried?

So, my stylist suggested semi-permanents to play around with. Naturally, I thought of products like Natural Instincts. But, the more I researched, the more I liked this product- why???

1. The reviews claim it's more gentle
2. It doesn't require developer so you can just add to your roots or refresh as needed and keep the rest in the bottle until you need it again without wasting money or product!
3. You can mix colors to create new shades.
4. Like others have mentioned, I also put a conditioner in mine to help with the consistency during application. My favorite is the leave-in conditioner by YEST to Carrots because it has keratin and argan so I'm getting a nice conditioning treatment while coloring.

I want to give this 5 stars but they really need to add more shades to play around with. When I'm at Sally's, there are some brands with easily twice the number of semi permanent/demi permanent shades that I want to try but I really liked this product so I'll stick with it for now.

Also, I wish they would provide some good ideas on what shades to mix and expected outcomes for those of us who aren't professionals. I like warm golden or reddish tones on my dark hair and so far have enjoyed Cedar mixed with light reddish brown or rosewood (tints my dark hair and goes well over my highlights or greys).

I like this product as a hair conditioner. Also it looks very natural. I am a man with graying light brown hair. The semi permanent type product fades naturally in a uneven way just like it goes on. Uneven and varying shades of hair look more natural than a solid block color look. That look is more appropriate for women.

It took me a little trial and error to find the colors I that work best for me, but I did! Since this product is relatively inexpensive, I originally bought light reddish brown, cedar red brown, rosewood brown, and medium ash brown in case it looked like I needed to tone down any pure red/pink in the red shades.

Most of my hair is colored with permanent color, a dark auburn-red color. I have chunky highlights in front and sides of my hair, but they came out too blonde for my liking, and the contrast between the paleness of the highlights and darkness my base color was too much for me. I have 1/2" to 1" of my natural roots at this point, which are about a shade and a half darker than my dyed base color. My roots are showing about 10% grey.

My goal with this color is 2-fold. 1. To blend my roots with my base color without such a harsh line, and to hopefully cover the silver. 2. To tint my blonde highlights red. I was hoping for the copper-penny red that my hair was when I was a kid. After processing my hair at the salon several times within a few weeks because I hated what they did to my hair, and then processing it myself, both base color and highlights (I did a much better job somehow!), I don't want to add any more stress to my already dry and fragile curly hair.

This color did the job! I just finished using it for the 4th time. No, it does not last long. But it is so cheap and easy to apply that I do not mind. Also, I am not applying this to my whole head-- just to my highlights, which cover maybe 1/3 of my hair, and to some of the roots. I focus on the roots along where I usually part my hair, and skip the rest of my roots. When I get more grey, maybe I will start covering them too.
