More About the Author

I live and write in St. Charles, IL. Two of my books are sold on Amazon: "Midwest Cottage Gardening" and "Beautiful Hands and Nails Naturally." I am presently writing a blog called "Something for (Almost) Nothing." It offers craft projects, gardening ideas, and recipes that make the most of slender resources. You can find it at franmanos.wordpress.com. I work at the St. Charles Public Library, and feel lucky to do so as I am surrounded by books all day long. Heaven!

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me; maybe it will for you., July 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful Hands and Nails, Naturally (Paperback)
I found I couldn't use one of the recipes in this book, because they were made wholly out of 'natural' ingredients, at least one of which I was allergic to in every recipe. --Sigh-- Some of the advice is good, but some is unrealistic and, to be honest, doesn't seem to be written for the person with soft (not brittle, soft) nails.

Although it didn't work for me, this book might be a good choice for someone with brittle, thick, or uneven nails. I didn't think it was bad, but for me it was, sadly, a waste of my money.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a MUST if you are interested in beautiful nails, May 7, 1998

My work involves some filing and lots of typing so my nails have traditionally been horrible. I got this book, followed the advice, and my nails are now beautiful. I can't believe it. The diagrams are very useful and the author has loads of easy recipes for nail-care products. "Beeswax Nail Spackle" for instance. It's easy to make and really helps heal your nails. Buy this book, if you want to improve your nails.

This review is from: Beautiful Hands and Nails, Naturally (Paperback)
I am just amazed how quickly I saw results of using the methods outlined in this book! I have never been successful with the common nail care methods and had given up that I would ever have nice-looking fingernails. No matter how much "nail hardener", "cuticle creams/oils", "soaking, filing, clipping" methods I used, my nails continued to be brittle, easily broke, split, and looked awful. I was very skeptical when I saw the word "naturally" in the title of this book, as that generally meant a lot of products I don't normally use. That thinking was soon dashed when I read that we will use simple things like castile or glycerin soap, a toothbush, petroleum jelly, lip balm, and inexpensive facial cream for basic hand and nail care - things that were already in my cabinet. I can honestly say - IT REALLY WORKS! I saw results with the first treatment and my nails and hands continue to improve. The 4-part regimen is so easy that I am sure I will continue using this method. I first picked this book up at our local library, but I am so impressed - I have purchased several copies to give as gifts! Thanks so much, Fran Manos, and I hope you will keep us updated on any of your new discoveries.
