Book Description

"Fan-freaking-tastic book. Ryan is more screwed up than Christian Grey, Gideon Cross, Tony Rawlings, etc....I loved this book, there was a TON I could relate to in this book, even right down to Iris being in the legal industry and Ryan and Iris were SCORCHING hot together." - RomFan Reviews

Beautiful Illusions - a page-turning, sexy, and very contemporary adult romance novel.

VERY contemporary.

Beautiful Illusions is a Cinderella Romance With a Twist - and what a twist it is!

Attorney Iris Snowe drinks too much, eats too much, and spends too much. Her sex life has been as spectacularly unsuccessful as her law practice, so she spends her evenings in her tiny apartment watching bad TV, talking to her cat, and rescuing pit bulls.

And her name might be Iris, but it should be Jade. As in jaded, which is how she feels about romance and men in general.

So, when a gorgeous and sexy stranger appears in her law office on Monday morning, after a one-night stand the previous Saturday, she doesn't think that he is coming to see her because he is interested. She just figures that she left something behind in the room and he is enough of a gentleman to deliver it to her.

How wrong she is.

As it turns out, Ryan Gallagher not only looks like a Ralph Lauren model come to life, but is also fabulously wealthy, as he is the son of a prominent billionaire.

In other words, light years out of Iris' league.

And completely into her, in more ways than one.

And so begins the erotic Cinderella romance of her life, with a man who truly loves her. And oh, if it could just be that simple. But, of course, it's not -the fairy tale is fractured, as it is marred by obsession, jealousy, and dark secrets that Ryan has desperately sought to conceal and repress. It turns out that, behind those magnificent green eyes, lies the memories of a past that nobody should ever have to experience. Nobody.

But when his past becomes his present, his secrets come to light.

And one of those secrets just might be deadly...

This is a full-length novel, approximately 100,000 words.

Story continues in Deeper Illusions, available NOW on Kindle!

2.0 out of 5 stars convoluted storyline July 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm giving this two stars because it was free. The storyline is so over the top that you are literally catapulted along the mainline to crazy town. The heroine, I use that term loosely, seems to walk through life in an emotional haze. She is a lawyer without an ounce of ambition and no work ethic. The hero, cough inserted here, is just indescribable. He's divorced, his six month old baby died, his mom is schizophrenic, he's a recovering heroine addict, raped and beaten by his father and his fathers friends, abused by a female pedophile, attempted suicide at least twice and lest I forget he is not only in love with the female lead but he's in love with another man as well. Whew, I'm exhausted just recapping that. But he is a multi millionaire, has a great body and can have intercourse for hours on end. That's a positive, right? He wants to marry his lady love and continue his long term love affair with his main man too. No problem...his lady love is cool with that. She was also pretty understanding when the pedophile kidnapped her and tried to kill her. You know because all rational thought escapes her. This was just too much and it's not even complete. Book two continues the saga of Iris and Ryan two crazy lovers just trying to navigate the mean streets of crazy town.

1.0 out of 5 stars It gave me a headache June 29, 2013
By paloma
Format:Kindle Edition
Ok, this book is so crazy that i swear it gave me a headache. I think the author tried to fit too much into one story. Seoursly.... Biseaxuality, wife being ok with cheating husband ( man or womam still cheating), abusive parents them there was the 50 shades take, with the older woman and the 14 year old, the there is rape, drugs, ex wifes, bipolar disorder, dog rescue, kidnapping, etc etc etc. and by the way who calls the man you love and adore DUDE? And come on sex all night long? Taking over a hour to come ( the author exact words)and this after an hour of foreplay, oral yada yada. TOOO MUCH. and it need editting pretty bad. I had my head spinning. i just jumped pages at the time.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is messed up. September 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am very confused about this book.
I wanted to keep reading, which tells me it's a good book, but
I also really disliked alot that was written.
Maybe its my own values and beliefs, but I struggled with the whole bisexual theme. Not the bisexual thing it self, just the whole, that wasn't seen as getting some on the side which it was.
Ryan hated that Alexis cheated on him, there was a scene that Nat made a comment about how she better not cheat on him. A lot of that was thrown around ,yet because his "brain sat in the middle of sexual interest" he could continue his affair with Nick.
Now, I understand Iris was concerned about him not having his freedom and that he may resent her if she put a stop to it , but come on... if he liked having sex with another woman as well as her, she wouldn't be so understanding.
It's cheating regardless.
I also thought that he didn't speak to nicely to her sometimes. Now her confidence was lacking at best ,yet he would put her down, him seeing Nick on the side couldn't be helping in the confidence issue, "I love you but your not enough for me".
I didn't like how the money and good looks always came into play as well, it was almost like that was a good enough reason stay and put up with all the drama.
Like I said in the beginning, it was messed up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kept me reading July 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
In the tradition of the New Adult novels this book had a lot of the plot lines of its predecessors-rich, handsome hero, cinderella girl and dysfunctional families and dark secrets. However it did differ in many ways. The hero wasn't a control freak. His money is from a trust fund and not some mega corporation he built himself. He was almost too sweet and accommodating. The dark family secrets was a bit darker than most of the books in this genre.

Ryan falls in love with Iris at first sight. Iris keeps wondering what he sees in her. Frankly I kept wondering myself. Except for her obvious intelligence, Iris didn't have much going for her. I wish the author had thrown a little bit more for me to like in this heroine. She is a lawyer who is overweight, in debt and doesn't like her career and pays little attention to her practice and her clients. I could have taken all the other negatives if Iris cared as much for the people she was trying to help as she did about the dogs she rescued. All that being said, the book was well written enough that I kept on reading because I needed to know what happened next through all the exaggerated plot twists and turns.

The most telling of all is that I have already downloaded the second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly a Great Find June 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ok, I have to admit i downloaded the book not because its free but because of the front cover,lol....sorry but I'm only human. But truly, what a great find! The Ryan is a beautiful man, sweet and romantic, rich, and had fallen in love with Iris, a harassed lawyer, with an equally harassed apartment, a messed up credit record and non existent love life. It would have been perfect for Irish, if the past stay in the past. Unfortunately, Ryan is hiding a very, very dark secret, one that may destroy their future together. i read this book with a bated breath on every page, i was shaken when the story and horror of the past of this gorgeous man unfold. i tried putting my self in Iris place, and alas, i just couldn't. Yes, i love him, but can i accept him when his past is still very much in the present? How could you compete with a lover who's been with him for more than ten years? Man is a sexual being, but where should you draw the line. i am a bit open minded accepting human sexuality, different strokes for for different folks. But then again i have never been to the other side...... yes it has a happy ending in a way. but i felt for Iris, i say there are loose ends that still needs to be tied before i walk down that aisle. i hope Miss Jocoby is now writing book 2( make it the final book please). This is really a great find, i a would really, really, really know what happen next!

More About the Author

I am currently a writer who is living in San Diego, but was raised in the Midwest, in Kansas City. I was an attorney for 11 years, then gave it all up for a man. Go figure. I hated that work, anyhow, so I didn't pursue law when I moved out to California. Hence, I based my main character, Iris, loosely on my own life.

There has always been a contemporary romance writer inside me, yearning to come out. But I was always a writer only in my heart. I took some creative writing courses, and always did well, but I never pursued it as anything other than a hobby. Sometimes not even that.

Ironically, my passion for writing was re-awakened when I got to San Diego and needed a flexible job. Flexible as in I needed to go back to the Midwest on a regular basis, so any full-time job could not accommodate that. So, I wanted a job where I could write on-line. And I found one. As an academic writer. In other words, when people bought their academic papers on-line, I was the one writing them. Talk about an embarrassing job! When people asked what I did, I said that I help people cheat. LOL.

But that job was wonderful for me, because I wrote virtually every single day. It activated that part of my brain. I wrote around 600 different papers for that service, for high school students all the way up to PhD.

Now, I can't imagine doing anything with my life than to offer escapism through creating sexy and wonderful (and wonderfully flawed) characters! Ryan Gallagher is the contemporary and sexy hero that I always wished I could find. Who wouldn't? Writing about this sexy man gets my juices flowing, and I hope that reading about him gets yours!
