Book Description

Hardworking, devoted wife Jessica races home from her hectic corporate schedule to spend an unexpected take-five the boss gave her with none other than her loving husband Byron. But the gut-wrenching scene she finds on the bedroom floor knocks the wind out of her. Betrayed, angry, wounded, it’s all she can do not to drag Byron to the nearest lawyer and demand divorce. As the evening unfolds Jessica opens her heart to the man she thought she once knew, and takes a chance on love. Can they work through his infidelity? And if so, what will it take for her to forgive him? Time, it is said, can heal all wounds. Can it really . . . heal all wounds?

Beautiful Imposter is an adult contemporary short story with mature language and scenes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Short! Give me more!!! :) August 23, 2013
Beautiful Imposter is a wonderful short story about a married couple and their unusual struggles. All emotions were conveyed in this short read, which, in itself, is a show of talent on the author's part. I felt the excitement that Jessica felt as she counted the steps and the seconds to finally being with her husband for a few hours, whom she was irrevocably and totally in love with...then anxiety waiting to see if he would be there waiting for her and ready for a passionate session of love making. But, for what she actually finds?...Shock, anger and frustration followed with the secret she learns her husband, Byron has been keeping from her. For Byron, I felt sympathy after seeing a bit of his POV. However, confusion followed and for quite some time as some details seemed to be missing. After finally realizing what happened both to Byron and to Jessica, sadness and heartbreak assumed my thoughts when learning of tragedy striking in the midst of their reconciliation. Fear of what may be yet another tragedy involving Jessica had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. When David, here employer, is brought more up front and center in the story, I find myself hoping for a happy ending, which is assumed to be the case, but not elaborated on.
I would like to see Alex give a more detailed version of this story to fill in the blanks and to move forward with the outcome of the characters involved.
This short story would be an ideal teaser/introduction to another book on a much larger scale.
On the other hand...leaving circumstances to the readers imagination is sometimes a wonderful thing. I was like everyone else here, confused at first, but left relieved and full of hope at the end of the book.
Five Stars for a well played tug on the imagination and fulfillment of emotional fruition.
I will most definitely keep following Alex's work. Good luck with your future writings!

4.0 out of 5 stars More, please? August 20, 2013
By Sue_McG
This is a short story, a novella, full of sadness, sweetness and an interesting story.I read it last night in about an hour, it was a page turner from every point of view and I will surely re-read it for details. The characters were simple, everyday people you would fine just looking around you, people who found different reasons to keep on doing the things they do.
It would be wonderful if the author wrote more about these people, a prequel and a sequel.

The book seemed to jump around without any cohesiveness. It never followed andy outline to combine the different chapters. It could have been good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Surprise November 9, 2013

Well this story was not at all what I was expecting. As I began reading I already knew that Jessica was about to stumble across Byron, her husband, in an awkward if not heart breaking situation. So I was already guarded and prejudging hubby...but even as Jessica dealt with her discovery I was none the wiser to the twist that Mr Shippe had up his sleeve.

To Soothe her woes Jessica pours herself a glass of wine...and what comes next is the real unexpected angle to the story. This is where we meet David and learn the reality of the story...and I must say a very very clever plot!

Mr Shippe is an articulate writer whose story telling is enticing yet still cryptic enough to ensure the reader stays intrigued to the very end. A great story filled with all sorts of emotions.

I look forward to seeing what else Mr Shippe has in store!!!
