5.0 out of 5 stars Austin at it's Best!
I'm one of the lucky ones blessed to live here in Austin, TX - a city that supports it's local talent and from where this band originates. I see them live at local venues on a regular basis and these guys totally rock! Listen to this CD and you'll understand what makes Austin the "Live Music Capital of the World" and Vallejo a local favorite!

3.0 out of 5 stars Best heard live
Saw this band in Memphis several years ago when they opened for Fuel. Fantastic live band! No doubt about that.

Their tunes sound kick-butt live but a little flat on CD. Seen this before, too, with Todd Rundgren's "The Individualist" -- fantastic songs when played live, but absent that energy on CD.

I recommend Vallejo as a live act...

I recommend Vallejo as a live act without reservation or hesitation. Do whatever you have to do to catch them live. But for me at least the studio recordings are missing that spark.

3.0 out of 5 stars True Blood soundtrack, August 20, 2009

I bought this CD because one of their songs, Snake in the Grass, was used as the closing number on True Blood. It wasn't on the season 1 soundtrack so I got the CD. Very happy with it. My hubby speaks fluent Spanish so he likes the mix of English and Spanish. My teenage son likes the Irishman in Spain song. I plan to pick up their other CDs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unknowns That Should Be Known, July 25, 2003

Call them the new Santana or at least the modern version of the 70's band that blended rock, blues, funk and salsa. This album contains some damn cool rockin' songs and melodic guitar solos that do not get old. Lead Singer/guitarist A.J. Vallejo and his brothers go from funky heavyness "If I Was President," to the sunny sound of "Immortal." The songs here, such as the title track are upbeat without being hokey or overly-sentimental. Vallejo are here to rock. Even a turn by DJ Hurricane on the dub sounding "Snake In The Grass" leaves you wanting more. An Irish folk song closes the record as the hidden track, showing indeed how broad this band can be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vallejo delivers in "beautiful" fashion, October 28, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful Life (Audio CD)
If you are not a fan of Vallejo, you ought to be. This album shows that they have matured in their writing a lot. Highlights of this album (thus far, as I've only listened to it a handful of times) are: Classico, 2053 (21st Century), All In Your Head, and then my favorite.... Die Trying. DJ Hurricane (of BEASTIE BOY fame) does an EXCELLENT job on tracks 7,9,10, & 12. A.J even hands the mic over on track 10. Very creative. There are not any tracks that I didn't like. Even the hidden track IRISH MAN LOST IN SPAIN is cool. If you have ever seen Vallejo live, you can completely imagine them closing the show with this one! If you haven't seen Vallejo live, make a point to do so. The recorded material is great, but the live show is even better.

2.0 out of 5 stars First Album was better.., December 21, 1998

Beastie or no Beastie Boys, I was dissapointed when played Vallejo's new album. As compared to their fantastic debut, this album just fails to rock. I can appreciate the approach back to latin roots, but I though this band rocked harder. Totally uninspired. It sounds like DJ Hurricane took the storm out of a firery latino rock band. I still wish to see if they still rock live. I also can't understand why AJ and Alex are posed on the cover the way they are..
