a great toy!, November 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful Makeup Book (Barbie Style Book) (Board book)
When my husband purchased this book/toy for our 4-year old daughter, I thought it was a ridiculous waste of money. Boy was I wrong! Not a day has gone by in the last 2 months that she hasn't played with this book, and we've bought several more copies as birthday gifts for her friends. Not only a great way to keep a preschooler entertained (great at a restaurant!), she's used the instructions to teach herself how to draw flowers. One word of warning, however: the book says okay to use the makeup on yourself, but we did that once and found it stained her face slightly. (Be advised: this is definitely more toy than book!)

Kelly hates toys.., October 5, 2005
This review is from: Beautiful Makeup Book (Barbie Style Book) (Board book)
Read all her reviews, most of them are against toys that [...]Your kids must be bored out of there minds! Are they allowed to play with anything? or is it like that xmas cartoon with the guy who cancels xmas because he hates toys?
Give us all a break and stop trying to force your anti toy beliefs on us, kids love to play with dolls, girls love to play with girly toys this doesn't mean they are going to grow up slutty or thinking they have to wait on their man, nor does it mean they will get fat and strive for a career at McDonalds if they play with FAKE food, the only thing unhealthy about playing with fake food is if they actually eat it.
This book will not make them think they have to be perfect and wear make-up so people will think they are pretty, kids learn what they are taught by there parents and teachers the rest is just fun play. Kids need more than books to learn how to live in the real world.
They also may rebel if they are held back, who knows maybe your's will decide to eat McDonalds everyday when they are old enough to get it themselves....People always want what they can't have, it's human nature.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of seeing the same bad review everytime I look at a toy!

Uses flashy props to turn children's books into toys, May 21, 2005
This review is from: Beautiful Makeup Book (Barbie Style Book) (Board book)
From Teachers Resisting Unhealthy Children's Entertainment: "Printed on cardboard, a format meant for baby books, this book comes with four shades of lipstick and rouge with applicator. Pictures and text show girls how to put make-up on Barbie and themselves."
"These 'toy' books undermine the acquisition of reading skills by diverting children's attention from the story line and language. They can make traditional books seem boring when they don't resemble toys and make children expect their books to use gimmicks to entertain."
