Beautiful Noise, Diamond's most overtly rock album, perhaps owes more to
Elton's flash than
Dylan's rough edges. Still, its recollections of New York City in the
Brill Building days couple with some forceful studio pop (produced by
Robbie Robertson, who would later invite Diamond to appear at
The Last Waltz concert) for a generally successful concept album. One of Diamond's best mid-'70s singles, "Do You Know What I Mean," is included.
