Editorial Reviews

Beautiful People is a British comedy drama television series based on the memoirs of Barneys creative director Simon Doonan. The series takes place in Reading, Berkshire in 1997, where thirteen-year-old Simon Doonan and his best friend Kylie dream of escaping their dreary suburban surroundings and moving to cosmopolitan London "to live amongst the beautiful people". The first episode aired on BBC Two on 2 October 2008 and recorded overnight ratings of 1.5 million viewers and positive critical reaction.[1] Episodes are self-contained, but do follow a loose story arc throughout the course of each series. The second and final series finished airing on 18 December 2009.[2]

This British TV series is just wonderful, and the second season definitely exceeded the first season. This particular product, (Blu-Ray DVD) of the show is a bit tricky however, as it appears to be coded for Great Britain, rather than the USA. I tried to play the DVD in three different Blu-Ray players to no avail. I'm told some Blu-ray players have more trouble with these than others, but I can't complain as the seller refunded my money without any hassle. I still think the product is actually region 2, and this appears to be the case for all of the sellers I have tried to buy it from, some of whom actually list the same product/ISBN number as a region 2 disc. Anyway, the show itself is great and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

So disappointed. Claims it will play but just sits there with a blank screen. Waited too long and now I can't return.

This series is FABULOUS! Simon Doonan's story about growing up gay in Reading, England is extremely funny and heartwarming. His parents are wonderful, if not clueless sometimes. And his 'Aunt' Hayley is a hoot as the Doonan's blind lodger. Check out his books, too.

Sadly, I purchased this without paying attention to the fact that it won't play on US DVD Players. (I've seen this before, and I love it!)
