Book Description

Some scars cut right to the heart.

Three years after her divorce, Chaili Bennett is over her ex. Her only problem now? Of the few men she’s dated since, no one “gets” her. Not like Marc Archer—a man who’s never seen her as more than a friend.

Marc Archer needs a date for a last-minute charity event, and he needs it fast. Not that women aren’t throwing themselves at his world-famous face and body, but sometimes it’s less messy—as in less personal—to use his sister Shera’s escort service.

The last woman on earth Marc expects to see in his sister’s office is Chaili. There’s something different about her, but nothing pleases him more when Shera sets them up. That simple date quickly evolves into much more as they both discover the other fills a deep, secret need they’ve shared with no one else.

Though Chaili insists one night is all she wants, Marc isn’t walking away now. Not until he discovers what put the shadows in her eyes. And the scars on her soul.

Warning: This book involves soulful songs, soulful sex, a soulful singer and lots of heartbreak. But no worries, there’s a happy ever after.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nice twist January 16, 2013
By Jean
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So I'll bet when you saw the title of this book you thought this would be yet another story about a bad boy rock star with an emotionally scarred childhood. Nope. Wrong. Marc had a great childhood and has achieved all of his dreams of making a success with his music. And yet, he can't seem to make a relationship work.

Enter Chaili - best friend to Marc's sister as well as being Marc's friend for over 20 years. Twenty years that she's spent being secretly in love with Marc and hoping he would notice her. When it became apparent to her that he never would notice her in "that way" she jumped into an ill-fated marriage with a guy she didn't truly love. The husband heartlessly divorces her and 3 years later, she and Marc find each other.

I really don't like spoilers in reviews so I don't want to give away where the beautiful scars come in to the story but I will say that it was a refreshing change to see this subject handled so beautifully. And that tatoo was all kinds of awesome.

I enjoyed the story, short as it was, but didn't feel like it ever really went anywhere. I'll stop short of saying it was dull - because it wasn't - but it wasn't an exciting read, either. I felt their connection, so that was good. The sex scenes were okay (even if I'm kind of over the whole BDSM thing these days) so that was good. It's just that there were things that were brought up for no apparent reason. For example, Marc's color blindness. I thought that issue was going to come into play somewhere later in the book but it didn't - so I don't get why we were even told the details of it in the first place. Or that they go to a sex club and I think things might perk up but they spend all their time in a private room doing nothing too exciting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed January 20, 2013

Another wonderfully emotional story by Shiloh Walker. Every page of this book jumped out at me. Everything from Chaili's crush on her best friends big brother too the terrible reason her marriage didn't work out.

Marc is a man who doesn't trust easy. He has been hurt one too many times by people he thought he could trust. But when his little sisters best friend (who just happens to be one of his close friends too) steps back into his life he will have to learn quickly that trust is giving freely, but if you mess it up once you will have a heck of a time getting it back. Only this time Marc is the one having to earn it back.

Chaili has been through hell the last few years, but she is determined to get back on her feet. But it is proving to be a bit of a challenge. When an opportunity comes up to spend the evening with Marc, Chaili is willing to do just about anything to get close to the only man she has ever truly loved.

Beautiful Scars is a great story of trust, love and learning to overcome your fears. If you are looking for a good read that will leave you wishing there was more. You need to pick up a copy of Beautiful Scars and learn what true love really is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beauty is in the eye and mind of the beholder March 2, 2013

Beautiful Scars" by Shiloh Walker is a beautiful contemporary romance novel that explores self image and the resiliency of the human spirit. Chaili Bennett leaps at the chance to not only do her friend Shera a favor but also to live out a long-held fantasy and attend a party as musician Marc Archer's date. The brooding man has never really responded to Chaili's overtures for a more profound relationship and they seem to orbit at cross-purposes in their lives but their connection finally deepens to a more sensual and emotional level. The secrets and hurts that have shaped the persons that they have become have left plenty of scars but it may make them find a way to celebrate the people they have evolved into and finally give each other the gift of honesty.

This wonderfully evocative story manages to meld an emotional and very sensitive subject with a delightfully sensual exploration between lovers. There are several controversial subjects tangentially approached, including the right and wrong way to approach BDSM as well as the threat of sexual blackmail but the overall intricate dance between long-time friends who are testing the possibility of becoming lovers is presented with the author's usual flair for a lushly memorable tale. Marc is a sometimes obtuse and intense artist who fumbles occasionally but is definitely a charismatic person with deep feelings and I enjoyed reading his journey. Another delicious story from a talented storyteller.

4.0 out of 5 stars True Believer January 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I spent an evening enmeshed in Chaili and Marc's world. Chaili and Marc have known each other since they were children and have been long time friends. Chaili has loved Marc for years but Marc doesn't see it, one of those times when you can't see what is right in front of you is the best thing to ever come along. One night Marc needs a date for a charity event and Chaili volunteers, this is the moment when Marc's eyes are finally opened to what is right in front of him and the possibilities of something fabulous happening. As they come together it is wonderful, loving, sexy and mildly kinky. They both have their issues and the scars, as the reader, you don't know if these are emotional or physical, they end up being both. I don't want to spoil how the scars are revealed in this review, just know that the scars help strengthen their love for each other in a beautiful way and allow them to build an even stronger bond. I will say that the end just sort of happens, as another reviewer commented I thought I was missing some pages. I wasn't unhappy with the ending, just hoping for something more to wrap up/give me insight into their future.

If you are looking for a romantic escape you can't go wrong with Beautiful Scars by Shiloh Walker. You will want a Steinway in your house and Marc sitting at the piano for your personal pleasure!
