Editorial Reviews

R&B singer and Six-time Grammy nominated performer Tamia Hill began honing her stellar voice when she was still a child growing-up in Canada. Living near the
boogie down city of Detroit, the then-budding talent was musical history through its deep gospel tradition and booming Motown sound. From her brilliant debut single You Put a Move on My Heart, produced by Quincy Jones in 1994, to her more recent song cycle, Tamia possesses both a hypnotic charm and timeless voice. In her accomplished career, Tamia has collaborated with a diverse roster of artists including Babyface, Barry White, Missy Elliott, Rodney Darkchild
Jerkins, Gladys Knight, Eric Benet and Gerald Levert; in 2003, she recorded the #4 Billboard Hot 100 Chart hit studio album Beautiful Surprise, the singer aurally explores various genres of music, blending her special passion with each style and making them her own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Buy Album August 28, 2012
Format:Audio CD
WOW Mrs. Tamia Hill has done it again; She's given the world real RnB that everyone can be proud of with the album Beautiful Surprise. This album is truly the blue print for RnB albums. It has smooth but strong ballads such as Love I'm Yours and Still Love You that can save radio stations from continuously playing low quality songs. Of course the album has songs that make you want to stop and grab the nearest person to you for a dance and listening to Him and Believe in Love makes me want to do just that. Effortlessly, the album sneaks in 2 country songs, Is It Over Yet and the remake of the 2004 classic Still. These tracks alone will make any listener a fan of country music; as Claude Kelly says, "Country and RnB music are like cousins" :)). Amazingly, the Beautiful Surprise album has given us what many RnB singers have moved away from and that's gospel. With the track Because of You, Tamia let's her fans know that the industry hasn't taken away her faith as she gives thanks to God for always lifting her up and getting her through hard times. Thus, this album truly is a must buy for all music lovers! Every song on this album is strong enough to stand on its own as a single; there's no album fillers on this baby! I've been a fan of Mrs. hill since I was 9 years old when she came out with the song You Put A Move On My Heart and I can honestly say she has never disappointed me with her music. This album is a work of art that deserves to win numerous awards. Now stop contemplating and Buy The Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great R&B CD! August 28, 2012
By Calvin
Format:Audio CD
I've been waiting for Tamia to release this album. I must say that I am very satisfied with this album. I haven't heard such a good R&B album in a while. She brings it back to the basics. Highly recommend this album to any R&B or Tamia fan. Great album!

2.0 out of 5 stars talent wasted October 12, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Tamia can truly sing and is very talented however after " you put a move on my heart" she hasn't gotten any memorable material to remind folks of her talents properly. the good news is that she still sounds strong and lively, the other side of that coin, its the usual heavy on the ballads and lite on the goods. nothing here really stands out at all. unless she ever gets the right material for her talent, i can see her on these award shows as a tribute act or used to sing hooks and she deserves better than that as a artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated August 23, 2013
By Parks
Format:Audio CD
Tamia is one of the most underrated artists in the industry. What I love and respect about her is the fact that she sings WHAT SHE WANTS TO SING. She is not compromising herself for anyone. So either you like it or you don't. My personal opinion is that she rocks! She makes good music and her style is all her own. She doesn't need to be somebody she's not to try and sell a song. When her career comes to a close (which will not be anytime soon), she can look back and be proud of her accomplishments. Point. Blank. Period. Haters can choke on that!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Surprise September 21, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Tamia is extremely talented, this CD is very smooth and easy on the ears. It is almost as if she can relate to the listener and is singing both about them and to them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tamia expands her sound on "Beautiful Surprise" September 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD
When Canadian R&B singer Tamia made her debut in 1995, she was fresh out of high school. The young chanteuse made her debut on Quincy Jones' star-studded album "Q's Juke Joint", where she appeared on the songs "Slow Jams" as well as a cover of the Mica Paris album track "You Put A Move On My Heart". While everyone took notice to her, it took a while for her to release an album. Fast forward three years later, she delivered her self titled debut. The recording was anchored by two singles- the Jermaine Dupri featured "Imagination" as well as the Tim & Bob produced "So Into You". In 2000, she moved from Quincy's label Qwest Records to Elektra Entertainment for her sophomore effort "A Nu Day" featuring her signature song "Stranger In My House". Four years passed on when she released her third album "More". Unfortunately, the album was underpromoted due to it being released around the same time Warner Music Group decided to fold Elektra. As a result, Tamia went independent in 2006 with "Between Friends"- her first and only album for Image Entertainment.

After being away for six years, she returns with a new album "Beautiful Surprise"- her first album for her new label home EMI Records. Joining her is the production team The Runners (Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Ace Hood) on three songs- the opening track "Lose My Mind", "Believe In Love" and "Him". She gets help from producer Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse, Miguel) on the album's title track "Beautiful Surprise" and channels a Celine Dion influence on "It's Not Fair". She reunites with producer Shep Crawford on his lone contributions to the album "Love I'm Yours" and "Because Of You".

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what we've come to expect
Was rather disappointed with this album as it wasn't what we've come to expect from Tamia. There weren't many songs where you would keep it on repeat.
