5.0 out of 5 stars You'll be humming right along with this one...
I first saw this film about a week ago, and ever since have had a couple of the songs stuck in my head ("Dream a Little Dream," "Move in a Little Closer Baby") and so had to get the CD. 1.0 out of 5 stars A fresh sound gets grating quickly
At first Mama Cass' lyrics and songs are buoyant and uplifting. However, after a couple of tunes I was craving for more realistic somber fare.

I first saw this film about a week ago, and ever since have had a couple of the songs stuck in my head ("Dream a Little Dream," "Move in a Little Closer Baby") and so had to get the CD. The unusual thing about that is that I really don't care for the pop music of the sixties, as a rule! But Mama Cass' great voice won me over--she was a real talent. And so many of these songs are just so darn catchy, you'll find yourself singing right along with them. Of course, all of these pop songs are available on other CDs by Mama Cass or the Mamas and the Papas, but this is a good introduction to their music if you don't have any of their recordings at hand.

Perhaps the main reason I bought this CD, however, is for the last track, which is background music from the film. The music is beautiful, played by a piano, guitar, and strings. It's rather haunting, with a wistful, melancholy feel to it, and brings some of the more touching scenes in the film to mind. And even though the track is only eight minutes long, it was well worth the cost of the entire CD just to have a good recording of this music to listen to....

I really do not know where to start:) I saw the movie for this soundtrack on late night cable years ago, and have watched it every time I've had the chance since. Great Movie and the music just accented the film so well it was truly amazing. I bought the soundtrack off ebay and its just an amazing collection of songs from an artist I had not heard of until I had seen the movie. Young, old, whatever this is a must get CD. If you dont buy the CD at least got the song "Dream a little dream of me", which is the best song on the album:)

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific stuff to relive the movie!, August 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful Thing: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
If you saw (or even bought) the movie Beautiful Thing, this is an absolute must have too. The first 8 tracks can be heard in the movie (ABSOLUTELY GREAT) and the following 7 tracks are additional songs not featured in the movie. The final 4 tracks listed (although only one track on my CD-player) is the beautiful background music by John Altman. Too bad that they didn't include the track "Sixteen, going on seventeen" that was also featured in the movie. Listening to this CD certainly gave me a positive feeling and brought me back to one of my favorite movies.

The movie was so amazing that I bought it along with the CD. It encompasses all of the Mama Cass songs from the movie plus many additional Mamas and Papas songs. It's truly a great CD from start to finish. Feel good, upbeat music. Definately worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!, April 18, 2002

This is my favorite movie, and the soundtrack is amazing. Mama Cass has several songs us homosexuals can ALL relate to. I love it so much. Too bad there couldn't be a track where Leah sang one of the songs she sings in the movie. She was so funny. Jamie and Ste... both hotties... specially Jamie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel...so...dirty..., May 21, 2004
This review is from: Beautiful Thing: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Uptight straight guys like me will have to be careful under what circumstances they listen to this music, so as not to be found out, but this is really a great collection. Mama Cass has a beautiful singing voice, and although I can't pretend to know a lot about her, I'd be surprised to find that these weren't most of her best songs. It really gives you a sense of a bygone age; the sweetness and purity of the sentiment, and the guileless energy of the music. Some of the songs, also, are deceptively complex; take 'Go Where You Wanna Go,' which isn't as cheerful as it seems at first. The music may have a simple sound, but the lyrics can explore subjects with a depth that pop music almost never approaches today. The soundtrack as a whole, too, is a great purchase, being more cohesive than most soundtracks, and with a logical track order. The single instrumental track is also very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Beautiful Thing!!!, April 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful Thing: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Before I saw the movie, I didn't know of Mama Cass. But now, I love her!!! This is the music that made the film great. It's so inspiring and impowering, it just makes you want to sing! The music is perfectly suited for the mood of the movie, which is also so inspiring. The songs bring back the images from the film every time you hear them. They're touching and sweet, just like in the movie. And, just like the film, the music touched my life. This soundtrack is a must and is even better when accompanied by the movie! You ahead, get it, you won't regret it, I didn't!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't stop listening to this!, September 15, 1999
This review is from: Beautiful Thing: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I don't know how else to say this, this albulm is the best cd I own! The Mamma's and the Papa's have a fantasic folk sound, and thier songs are oldies legends. This cd will have you off your feet dancing with your love in two seconds, and if you saw the movie, then you'll be able to relive the wonderful emotions as you saw Jamie and Ste dancing away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mood, November 12, 2005
This review is from: Beautiful Thing: Music From And Inspired By The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This sound track has great Mama & Papas songs. Mama Cass has a great voice! Dream a little Dream is the standard for a romantic song. The final song is a great closure and stand on its own as an inspiring piece. The music will also bring an awesome movie to life again if you have seen it.
