A Well-Kept Secret Discovered,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful World (Audio CD)
I bought this solely on the strength of "Please Don't Tell Her" and after never really delving into the remainder, put it aside. A recent road trip required a recycling of my main car CD fare and I threw this into the mix. It caught my ear, my attention, and still remains. I had not sampled any of their other efforts, but after continous play of this, I have looked and discovered the quality of their work here extends to other offerings.... Great sound, excellent instrumental sides and a package that works...and works very well. I still get a raised eyebrow or curious look from others when they hear something I'm playing from here, ask who the artist is, and I reply "Big Head Todd and the Monsters"....Not sure if they go out later and discover what I did, or assume I'm pulling their leg..Their loss if they don't. This is extremely good stuff...

Good, but try "Sister Sweetly" or "Strategem" first,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful World (Audio CD)
I jumped when this CD was released, having become a major fan after stumbling onto Sister Sweetly when it was released. Beautiful World, however, has quite a few great songs but never seems to click home the way the previous two albums did. "Heart of Wilderness" and "Caroline" are outstanding, and there are nice touches everywhere, but my overall impression was that something is missing. There isn't a bad song here, that's for sure, but the highlights are fewer than before. Still, a mediocre BHT album is still better than anything Eric Clapton has done in years.

Still and always I imagine Sister Sweetly will stay at the top but this one is right there. Another consistently good product from these guys.

I purchased this when it was released and just now am submitting a review. "Beautiful World" didn't light a fire under my tail when it was released but as time has past it has made its mark as a very good effort. "Resignation Superman" grows stronger with each listen as does the title track and "Crazy Mary" but then again I could list every song here. This effort may not be a good as previous BHTM efforts but don't letthat discourage you. BHTM are mellow and profound. Todd's guitar is smooth and easy as is his lyrics which are wise beyond his years. A true "craft" band, honing their style and crafting their art, they never fail to deliver quality in the studio and on stage.

Sweet blues...,

I love this cd. It's been in my car cd player forever, and I get sad thinking about taking it out. I'm a late comer to the BHTM ride, but what a sweet and soulful ride it is. Some music just gets into your soul, and only one other group can do this for me, Cowboy Junkies. And now BHTM. Ok, and Sarah Maclaughlin (but where is she???) Check this out, but give it a long listen, out on the road, let the music move you.

Great Album,
By A Customer
This review is from: Beautiful World (Audio CD)
The lyrics are great. The album flows well throughout and the three men are masters of their instruments. I have owned it for some time and have only grown to like it more. I also own Sister Sweetly and Riviera. I can say that all three of these are really, really strong albums in my view. The songs are bluesy and reflective with a touch of sadness throughout. Worth the money.

Great solid groove with a funky, loose vibe..,

EXCELLENT rock album! With a superhot clean guitar tone, guitarist Todd Park Mohr kicks things into high gear, while their crack rhythm section keeps it solid and grooving. A good variety of styles appear, each delivered with confidence and passion. They have a great loose, soulful approach to playing and a cool vintage vibe to their music. Their great live sound is captured well in the studio here. Great blues-y soulful rock.

As enjoyable a listen as Counting Crows or Dave Matthews without any pretensious brooding or mindless rambling. A sharp, focused offering by great musicians who don't beat you over the head with their greatness.

listening to an alternative radio show with some pretty good tunes. That is what Beautiful World sounds like. Everysong could be from a different artist. From Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Puddle of Mud, The BoDeans, Point Black, The Black Sorrows, J.L.Hooker, etc... sound alikes. Interesting and cohesive but without a constant factor, which is just fine. Everyonce in awhile is just fine to loose yourself in some pretty good tunes whitout a lavel. Okey....

As a person that grew up with these guys, literally across the street, I continue to enjoy the great music they turn out. Keep up the good work guys! You've come a long way since TJ & the twist!
