Now if she could only stop that pesky unwanted visitor from messing with her plans!

I bought this wonderful book for my 12 year old niece. My hope is that the book will help to prepare her for the trials of the teenage years. I wish the book had been published earlier, I would have given it to her at 11 years. The "tween" will benefit from reading about an older teen who may seem fine to an observer, but suffers from a feeling of inadequacy and is able, by a twist of fate, to overcome it. Any teenage girl will be able to relate to the societal pressures that are humorously depicted in the book. Insights, in the form of sage quotes throughout, are a lovely way to introduce a perspective that can be pondered and researched if the reader so desires, keys to navigating life in a thoughtful way. Really, the book is a good reminder for females of all ages to bypass the mirror every once in awhile and access the beauty within. I highly recommend the book, Beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful message. A story any girl can relate to. March 26, 2014
By Corey
It’s easy to get caught up on what society makes us believe is beautiful. Tweens, teens, and young women can easily fall into the trap of believing they are not good enough, therefore, they must change who they are, or at least change the way they look. This graphic novel will remind those who are constantly fighting with their inner voices to let go of the negative thoughts in their heads, and instead, be true to themselves, because that’s what really makes them beautiful.

Great job, author! Loved the illustrations too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute and Short May 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a cute little story about a girl doubting her worth. I previewed it for my daughter and am gladly recommending it to her. I think we all struggle with self worth at some point and this is a nice little reminder that we are all beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and delightful April 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
A friend gave me this book, knowing that I work as a psychotherapist. I read it, anticipating that I might think of people who would benefit from reading it. A bit to my surprise, I benefitted from reading it (not to mention that I thoroughly enjoyed it)! I shared it with my wife, and she adored it. Being in our 60's, I would not ordinarily consider us to be in the target demographic for this book (presumably girls in their teens and tweens, and maybe early adults as well). But this book is quite special, and quite touching, and I think it transcends such simple categorization. It hits something a bit deeper than I would have predicted, given that it is a simple and short book.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the images of this graphic novel. They have a quality that I can't quite describe, but I can say that their impact is uplifting and heartening. I notice that some of the drawings have popped into my mind in the days since I finished the book, echoing the enjoyment I felt when I was looking at/reading the book.

Obviously, I have been won over by this book, and look forward to more works from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful is a beautiful book April 27, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Beautiful is a book that I wish was around during my teen years. What a difference it could have made! This book is especially perfect for the world of today with all of the media's emphasis on shallow outer beauty and who has hooked up with who.
The art work in the book is delightful. The author does a fabulous job of getting into the mind of Lily the book's main character.
We all know what crazy things our mind tell us and can relate.
I have not read anything so refreshing and honest in a very long time.
Buy this book for your daughter, nieces, friends and all of the women in your life. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars touching and sweet graphic novel April 16, 2014
I loved this book! Especially because, well, she's such an endearing character -- and I could easily relate to her. Musing on what beautiful is, how to be beautiful, attractive, desirable, etc, etc. Almost anyone (girls, women, men, and boys, too) who's been through body-image or self-doubt issues will be able to find its final message stunningly accurate. A good reminder for all ages. Inspirational, witty and humorous, with lovely, whimsical and entertaining drawings.

The book speaks to the place from which true beauty emerges and shows that it is not through buying, changing, improving, seeking, exercising, snipping or hoping. It comes from being exactly who we are. This is a message that our culture needs so desperately right now. I think a mother, aunt, sister, or therapist reading this with their tween would be powerful and a good conversation starter - if they'll let you of course :-).

And....the book itself is beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. The graphics are engaging and unique.

I highly recommend this book as a daughter, sister, aunt, and psychotherapist.

I grew up in Worthing, a seaside town in England famed for bringing forth the creators of Tank Girl, being the childhood playground of Billy Idol, housing Oscar Wilde while he wrote the Importance of Being Earnest... and maybe you've heard of Leo Sayer? Maybe not.

At any rate, if you've ever been to Worthing you'll never forget laying out on your towel on the knobbly pebble beaches. They leave quite an impression...
