This book takes me to the wonderful dark places in my soul. I have read it numerous times and would highly recommend it to those would have a taste for D/s. There are some amazing scenes. Enjoy.

I have read many "S/M" or "B/D" or "whatever-you-want-to-call-it" type books and this is my very favorite!! There are a couple of scenes in this book that bring me very close to orgasm just by reading them. Obviously it is not for the faint of heart, but if you are looking to travel to the darker side, this is a great road to take.

This is a very good book. It's dificul to create to separate stories and interconnect them by creating an exchange of letters, but the author had done it. The male character is fairly good but I think that the author was a woman because he clearly is the "dumb part" of the two. Lizzie, on the other hand, you will fall in love with her. You just will. Although she is more of a spectator than a participant, you will feel that you are there with her, both witnessing the scenes in the Harem, one after the other. Be on the watch for any scene with Lizzie and make sure you don't miss the whiping scene on the ship. Enjoy

I found the book demeaning and even worse boring. The "girls" in Britian were dumb and mean. Sex was a punishment that they did not enjoy. Lizzie, the only intelligent female, was restricted to being an observer to an Arabic harem. There was definite potential. Some parts really turned me on, but in the end it was disappointing.

I read this for the first time about 20 years ago. It was my first erotica and It has held a special place in my heart ever since. I credit much of my love of good erotica and my twenty year marrage to having read this book to my husband. I am very happy to have a copy of it again. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in really good erotica.

Great Potential, No Follow Through,

This review is from: Beauty in the Birch (Mass Market Paperback)
The epistlatory novel, when well done, is a joy to read. Unfortunately, the connection between the letter writers of this novel seems facile. In other words, the letters are too obvious a device for each correspondent to rattle off the sexual exploits they have experienced and/or witnessed. Also, the D/s scenes lacked any kind of heart. A good novel of this genre shows the reader that ultimately the participants are willing. Submission is a question of trust. Dominance is an exercise in being worthy of that trust. The characters explored here have no genuine feeling for each other. The girls at the school are being punished without a trace of the element of seduction. The harem scene with the doctor "experimenting" is so cold and clinical it comes off as frightening rather than sensual. The book is worth one read, if only because the genre is still so woefully understocked. However, read it with low expectations and no thought of making it a favorite to come back to again and again.

This book is a series of letters between Charles and Lizzie and their sexual exploits at a school for wayward women for Charles and a harem for Lizzie .... For eroticism to work at all there has to be at least some kind of cursory seduction for goodness sake... This book just get right into the scene without much of an interaction between the players at all ..... I mean whats the fun in the wham bang and no thank you mam kind of writing. It gets one star cause thats all there is .... |
