Simply Marvelous,

This is so great. I'm hopeless with beauty products, I never know whats good and what isn't. This book will definitely help me with that. The products mentioned have all been tried by "real" women (and in some cases, men). They are categorized as far as price is concerned, High, Medium, Low (one brand in particular has their products at $1.00, and they rated very well), and in some cases Outrageous. There are tips on using/applying the various products from experts, and you will be surprised by some of the remedies. It comes with 50 samples, but I would not take the word "sample" lightly. Lip sticks, liners, balms etc are normal size, no mini's here. The creams, lotions, shampoos etc are in "sample" sachets, however, these are definitely not small. There is actually enough in them to give you a good idea as to whether those particular products will suit you. Lastly, and for me most importantly, it's written for everyone, no industry jargon or mumbo jumbo here. I actually understand every word in this package. This is for people of all ages.

Nice book, not confident in its recommendations,

The Beauty Buyble was beautifully packaged- the samples were a really nice touch and the box itself is really nice. I like the writing style, the concept, the "special guest" comments, etc.
The problem comes in with the product recommendations themselves. I have tried a number of them and can not share them as a success. Neither can the thousands of women who participate in makeupalley.com, a forum for makeup and skin care reviews. I randomly checked out 10 of the "top recommendations" and most of them came in as a rating of 3.5 or less on makeupalley. This would qualify as a mediocre product for the most part. We are all looking for the best products around. Our skin and complexion needs are so different, it's difficult to find recommendations en-masse. The Beauty Buyble does no better - and definitely no worse- than the "best of beauty" segments in major magazines. Unforunately, I don't think it will improve my odds of making better product choices, as much as I had hoped so.

Fun stuff, good samples, great idea- book could be better...,
This review is from: The Beauty Buyble: The Best Beauty Products of 2007 (Paperback)
I'm a beauty product junkie, and when my sister sent me this package for my birthday I was amazed! What a great idea- a book reviewing beauty products and a ton of samples of some of the products that are reviewed. The samples were from many different companies (some not US), but still readily accesible via the internet. My only complaint was that after flipping through the pages of the book I felt like there were a lot of products missing. It seems like there are a number of companies or brands that pop up consistently which smacks of corporate sponsorship to me. I'll still try some of their recommendations, but I hope next time they write one that it's more comprehensive and possibly less biased. I think one of the best features of the book is that the products are separated into price points high to low. This is especially good for those of us on a tight budget.

HoHum samples,
By chasbabs "chasbabs" (Hayward, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I wouldn't buy this a second time- the 'full size samples where two tubes of lip balm- and the majority of samples where from one company with mail order products and samples of rather ordinary sunblocks and lotions.
The book was lightweight as well. SO Ho Hum and boring. WOuld not bother with it again.

Save your money....,

The reviews seemed to be limited to a few product lines; I had no sense that exhaustive testing had taken place. Funny, the authors seemed to favor the products of the guest reviewers! Advice contradicted itself; for example, on one page it said to apply SPF before moisturizer, while on the next it said the exact opposite.
The $50 of free samples I'd value at closer to $10 and not the stuff you'd be wanting to try. The whole effort screams product promotion and not legitimate recommendations.

Perfect for a Beauty Junkie!,

This review is from: The Beauty Buyble: The Best Beauty Products of 2007 (Paperback)
First off, I am a complete sucker for "free" samples, so when I saw the Beauty Buyble in a magazine, I had to buy two copies! Yes, the products are sample sized, but what would one really expect? I was, however, impressed with the fact that the samples included two full-size lip balms, a full-size gloss/liner combo, two nearly full-size eye pencils and one nearly full-size lip liner--that alone makes the samples. Other highlights of the sample pack include a free one-year magazine subscription. For anyone who counts the days until Sephora's annual deluxe sample bag promotions, this is great. I have only paged through the book itself, but I find the product recommendations interesting. Some I would consider buying, some not. However, if you are looking for a book stashed with beauty tips, you're not gonna find it here. It's mainly focused on reviewing products, not offering helpful hints (other than in small doses, such as "Paris Hilton's Beauty Secrets")...

Great idea - terrible book!,
This review is from: The Beauty Buyble: The Best Beauty Products of 2007 (Paperback)
The idea for this book is great and I wish more beauty books included samples. That said, this is the WORST beauty book I have ever read. They recommend products from the same product lines again and again, making me wonder if they have a conflict of interest or if they were just too lazy to try other brands. Also, the samples are mostly from really cheap brands, with a few exceptions, and not worth it. Too bad - I was really excited about the idea.

Not really worth the price.,
This review is from: The Beauty Buyble: The Best Beauty Products of 2007 (Paperback)
I agree with other reviewers who said that there's no evidence any real comparison testing was done with these products. The samples were mostly packets of skin care items. There were 3 full-size lip products (not the expensive lip-plumper-it was tiny), but one caused serious irritation, one was too dark for me, and one was too old and waxy to be useful. I was shorted one product, and the product list wasn't entirely accurate. There was also a card for a free magazine subscription - I sent it in but never got any magazines (I did suddenly start receiving more junk-mail, however. I suspect that's related.) The book is so-so at best - mildly entertaining, but nothing to be taken very seriously.

I could've done better,
This review is from: The Beauty Buyble: The Best Beauty Products of 2007 (Paperback)
I read about this book in several gossip rags, so I figured, it must have something in it that must be useful. I couldn't wait until Christmas to see IF I might get it so I bought it. First of all, the book is a lot thinner than I thought. It does have some decent reviews but don't think they had a broad range of products because it seems as if they are going with a lot of the same companies. Second, the samples, very disappointing! When I am getting samples, the last thing I expect is some Banana Boat packets. There are some good samples, don't get me wrong, but I think there should've been more "high end" product samples. How else are the poor people going to know if they like the product and will sell their soul to get money to pay for it. I liked how the author rated items and recommended cheaper ones as well as expensive. Overall, don't buy the book for the samples just check it out at the library or used book store.

Thank goodness I didn't pay full price for this. Mine was missing some of the samples on the list included in the box. Overall it's ok. The concept was good.
