A Must-Have Book for Every Woman,
This review is from: The Beauty Cookbook: 200 Recipes to Make Your Kitchen Your Spa -- for Your Face, Your Body and Your Hair (Paperback)
Every single woman needs to own a copy of The Beauty Cookbook. Young or old, wealthy or not, high-end cosmetics maven or naturalista, this book is for you.
The Beauty Cookbook is the most comprehensive and practical beauty book I have ever come across. Chock full of recipes for everything (and I mean everything) you can imagine, Kym and Cindy offer women a fun and fabulous read as well as easy-to-make recipes to improve and beautify their hair, skin, nails, teeth, and body. Have wrinkles but don't have hundreds of dollars to buy a fancy wrinkle cream? No problem. Kym and Cindy have several simple recipes that are time tested and guaranteed to produce results, without all the filler and junk in fancy creams. Dry skin? Got that covered, too. Want to create a romantic, relaxing, or stress-relieving bath? Check out the chapter on bath salts. Hair too processed, dry, damaged, oily, flat, frizzy, or dull? There's a solution here for you. Yellow teeth, yellow nails, yellow hair? The fix is in the book. The Beauty Cookbook even offers tips for a better night's sleep, improved memory, and fresher breath! While one wonderful aspect of this book is the sheer volume of recipes it contains, women will be gratified to discover that the ingredients for these recipes can all be found right in the kitchen pantry. Seriously. A kitchen pantry stocked by Kroger. You don't have to find some local, exotic market or drop hundreds of dollars on hard-to-pronounce ingredients at Whole Foods. To make these recipes you need basic things like grapes, pineapples, oranges, cocoa powder, grapeseed oil, strawberries, honey, and baking soda. For mere dollars, you will look like a million bucks. Please don't miss this book. It is THE book on beauty, and it has everything a woman could want: natural, affordable, easy, comprehensive, and effective recipes to enhance mind and body.

This book is full of really great, inexpensive beauty tips. My favorite tip is for brunettes: rinsing your hair with coffee to bring out the luster and shine of dark hair (that can sometimes look really dull). Great book!

I have dry skin, and tried many cosmetics for help,MY SKIN LOOKS
SMOOTHER,SOFTER,YOUNGER LOOKING the pumpkin mask works wonders. 1.When applied the pumpkin's beta carotene reacts with enzymes in the skin to form vitamin A and retinyl esters, that help strengthen weakened capillaries and regenerate collagen for firmer skin, it has done wonders for my skin!I use the Olive Oil/with water to moisturize my face, My skin is normally dry. I am saving money and I don't have to worry what is in the products. I bought a First magazine for women, and it recommended this book, they included the canned pumpkin mask in their article. I tried the pumpkin mask and it tightened my skin reduced my pores, my skin noticeably different even after the first time..., so I immediately ordered the book on Amazon, it is totally worth it for just this mask, keep the mask away from the delicate eye area, because it exfoliates the skin. I will update my review with more things I like and use from this book.. UPDATED 2/18/11: 2nd item i tried... I have also tried the Martha Washington mask...people commented on her porcelain skin,1 egg separated,1 teaspoon honey,1/4 apple cider vinegar..beat white till frothy...fold in egg yolk and vinegar, enough for 3 or 4 days refridgerate and discard after a few days..keep away from delicate eye area. 3rd recipe apply almond oil to body before your shower it will protect your skin,(be careful don't slip in the shower)it keeps soap from drying my skin,I love it.. 4th advice drink 4 glasses cold water a day, also in the morning splash very cold water on your face, it will tighten your pores and make you look younger.. thinning hair recipes, beautiful feet recipes, rescue oily skin, help for pimples, dry skin...dandruff...much,much,much, more.. I AM FINALLY GETTING COMPLEMENTS ON MY SKIN AGAIN.. I am going to buy more of the books to save as gifts..

When life gives you lemons, now you can whiten your nails! That's just one of the terrific tips that Kym and Cindy give us in "The Beauty Cookbook." Easy, fun recipes with stuff we've already got in the kitchen, that can make us look and feel more beautiful and radiant. The best part is that what's good for our skin, is also good for the environment. These are environmentally friendly beauty recipes, no chemicals, everything natural - and yes, mostly even edible! But the recipes aren't for concoctions to eat, they're to bathe in, or slather on. Yummy, fragrant, and practical. You'll never look at your refrigerator in the same way again.

Ridiculously Easy Recipes, Iffy Ingredients ... and Great if You Love Cosmo,
By Leslie Martin "author of Crunchy Betty's Food... (Manitou Springs, CO) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

If you're looking for a beauty recipe book with tons of really great natural ingredients, this probably isn't it. With recommendations to put petroleum jelly in and on things, as well as chapstick, "your favorite eye cream," Cheerios, and the initial recipe, which includes liquid soap for your face, this book doesn't really try to be truly natural or organic. That said, it is chock full of incredibly easy (often one- or two-ingredient) recipes that nearly anyone can put into action immediately. It reads like a tabloid sidebar, so it's definitely not heavy or too in-depth. Who this book is for: Anyone who's never made their own beauty products but is slightly curious. Also, any desire for in-depth information will lead to disappointment here. This book is for you if you just want a fun little compilation of elementary ideas to flip through every once in a while when you're in the mood. It would have been so very helpful if the publishers would have made sure there was a comprehensive index (that listed by either need or ingredient) instead of just a total repeat of the table of contents for an index. I still don't understand that part. :) All in all, this book makes a concentrated effort to be easy, silly, and on par with magazines like Cosmo or Glamour. And it succeeds.

I saw this lady do a demonstration on the Ellen Degeneres show. She's really funny and it's a creative book. I gave it as a birthday gift and my friend liked it!

I just bought this book last week. The whole book almost reads like it was written for me, TO ME. Kym and Cindy do such a great job relating to women. I'm 23 years old and don't have a need for some of the wrinkle treatments, but I tried an egg yolk in my hair tonight and what a difference! My hair feels great! Egg White face mask made my skin feel so good (I even used it a bit for perkier breasts!). I can't wait to get to the grocery store so that I can buy a few of this books staples (lemons, olive oil, baking soda, etc...). Very great buy and totally worth every penny (especially now that I'm on my way to saving so much money on beauty products!)

I bought this for my girlfriend who already dabbles in the kitchen and tries to make her own masques. Hers are basic and I thought this would help her expand the ingredients as well as the benefits. After thumbing through the book, I was intrigued and decided to browse but ended up reading it from cover to cover.
The recipes for facial treatments are easy and they vary depending on what you're wanting to do (rehydrate, relive sunburn, etc.) However, on page 36 and 37, there are two treatments: "No-shine complexion treatment" and "Cornstarch facial." Both require 1/2 c. orange juice, 1 tbl. cornstarch and a dash of salt. Two different names..... same ingredients and measures. "Leave on the skin for 10 minutes." I'm not sure if they repeated this because they needed a filler for the book, or if they thought that nobody would notice. Pages 36 and 37 face each other and when you close the book, the receipes are right on top of each other. Bad editing? Trying to trick the public? Oversight? Do the authors sincerely believe these are two separate treatements? (Or being a guy, am I missing something that only ladies know?) For whatever reason, I just find it a little odd. That is the only reason I gave it 4-stars. The receipes themselves, though, get 5-stars. You'll also get a huge laugh out of the introduction - the mental image it will create in your head is sheer genius. Very well written! |
