"...a funny, sexy, and lively first book in a shapeshifter series." - Publishers Weekly

From the Inside Flap

Bathsheba Ward is human, which means dating supernaturals is strictly forbidden--unless the
interested party happens to be the powerful head of their Alliance. So when were-cougar Beau Russell insists that she join him for dinner at a fancy French restaurant, she agrees. Not because the man is so incredibly hot he makes her hormones sing. She's more interested in saving her desk job at an exclusive dating service that caters to a clientele with rather . . . eclectic tastes.
But just try hiding a supernatural family secret when your would-be boyfriend has supersharp
animal senses. Then again, try protecting yourself from a bloodthirsty, home-invading mythological creature with just a bottle of liquid silver and a carving knife.
Maybe having an über-sexy supernatural partner isn't such a bad idea after all. . . .

More About the Author

Jessica Sims lives in Fort Worth, Texas, with her husband. She hates writing a bio, so something cool will undoubtedly go here later when she actually thinks of something interesting to write. She has some cats, but what writer doesn't? She plays video games and confesses to reading comic books. And she likes writing, but that one was pretty obvious.

I bought this book on the recommendation of one of my favorite authors, with the expectation that the book would be fun and romantic, yet with some depth. Unfortunately this was not to be the case. The heroine made nonsensical choices time after time throughout the entire book. I was expecting something lighthearted, but the plot was almost nonexistent. The book was a series of mishap after mishap, with cardboard cutout characters. Most of the characters - even the heroine's sister who was so central to the "plot" - was one-dimensional. I hate to be this negative about a book, but I was just so disappointed. The last few chapters in particular were distressing. SPOILER When the heroine is saved from the villain, she tells the hero that although she has injuries and burns over 60% of her body, she's fine because she wasn't raped. Really? Fine? That's bad enough, but she was actually sexually assaulted - the villain just didn't rape her. So I found the tone and message throughout the whole book "woman who needs to be rescued, but she's okay as long as she isn't raped, even though she was horribly injured and tortured" to be in poor judgment. SPOILER END This problem is on top of the lack of plot or character choices.

As a human, Bathsheba normally wouldn't have much to do with supernatural beings. However, since she works for Midnight Liaisons, an exclusive paranormal dating service, Bathsheba is up to her ears in vamps, weres, harpies and more on a daily basis. When a date with a very important client is canceled at the last minute, Bathsheba is frantic. Beau Russell may be new to Midnight Liaisons, but the were-cougar happens to be head of the Paranormal Alliance. Luckily for Bathsheba, Beau has a solution; Bathsheba will be his date...for a week. When he's about to go into "heat," so to speak. It's almost too much for one human to handle, and that's before Bathsheba takes into account the fact that humans and supes aren't supposed to date AND before she begins to feel like someone's stalking her. But since the hunky were-cougar is determined to have her...well, Bathsheba can't bring herself to resist.

BEAUTY DATES THE BEAST is a quirky paranormal romp that begins what is sure to be a fun series filled with supernatural delights. Author Jessica Sims has written a fast-paced story that's got both humor and heat. Beau is a meltingly sexy hero, but his true appeal lies in the fact that he takes his responsibility as the leader of his clan and the Paranormal Alliance seriously. I can't help it; I love a hero who has a good head on his shoulders. Bathsheba, in turn, is someone who is willing to sacrifice much for those she loves. She doesn't cry or complain about her sometimes less-than-ideal life, but she isn't some saintly, unrealistic heroine who doesn't acknowledge that she'd like luck to turn her way once in a while. Together, Beau and Bathsheba are a great couple, and Ms. Sims made it easy to enjoy their romantic journey.

When I read the reviews I decided to give it a shot but was very disapponted, I would have given a 2 1/2 if able instead of a 3. "SPOLIER ALERT" I liked the humor the few times it showed up, the picnic was inspired. However Bathsheba was so weak and stupid she got on my nerves. She trusted Beau enough to give him her virginity but not enough to help with her sister, or the boss who was pimping her out for dates? Bathsheba made one dumb decision after another, putting everyone in danger, (really, not checking to see if they have the sister before rushing out to save her). Luck must have been the only way she took care of her sister for years and kept them safe, the only time she shows any common sense is at the end. Sadly her sister Sara sounds even weaker. The one highlight is the male characters, they are smart, stong, and hot. If I do purchase Sara's story it will be only to see what happens to Ramsey.

Bathsheba Ward is a human working at a dating service for the supernatural. Not really what you would call a dream job. But Bath needed a job in a hurry and took it in order to keep her younger sister safe and them with food and a roof over their heads. Besides, the one main rule her boss has it that you can't date the clients. Great news to Bath's ears until the day a new and influential client corners her into a date.

Beau Russell is the leader of his clan and a man with an immediate need. He is a were-cougar in need of a date immediately and when his dating service match cancels at the last minute, Beau goes for the woman on the phone. A decision that turns out to be one of his best - at least he thinks so. Getting his clan and Bath to agree will take a bit more persuasion and he is just the man to do it.

Bath agrees to one date with Beau thinking no one will be the wiser, after all humans need approval to date paranormals. It will also keep their boss happy and let Bath and her sister keep their jobs. A good idea in theory, but it begins going south from the very beginning. Attraction is immediate between Beau and Bath and the evening really turns interesting - not in a good way. Bath has to figure out how to hide her attraction to Beau so he will leave and how to keep her sister's secret safe from his clan. On top of that, when the boss finds out about the date, you just knew she would - right, Bath finds herself on the speed-dating track for paranormals. What a mess because Beau isn't giving Bath up easily and someone has trashed Bath's house making Bath and her sister dependent on Beau's clan.

Were-cougar clan leader seeks and finds a human dating service office manager who learns first hand the ups and downs of dating in Beauty Dates The Beast.
