(REAL NAME)
I have been eyeing J*Davey for almost two years now. My attention was turned to them by Prince, who invited them to perform at his 3121 club in L.A. in 2006. I checked out the MySpace profile of the band then and instantly fell in love with it. Although it took me some time to pick up their music, but that's solely to the fact that you cannot find it that easily. The new double EP finally gave me a real chance to get to know them closer. They're fresh, inventive, catchy and edgy. The male half of the duo is a true wizard as far as beatmaking is concerned. Brook D'Leau brings a whole variety of rhythms, from uptempo bubble pop of "Division of Joy" to the quirk of "Private Parts" that utilizes a Prince-sounding Linn drum machine beat. The production breathes some new life into hip-hop soul and wets appetites for what J*Davey are going to drop in the future. Jack Davey, female half of the duo, lends her sensual voice to almost each of the track (there are instrumental passages) with the swagger and rawness worth of Erykah Badu, yet she's not copying the Dallas marvel in favour of some more spontaneity. The EP is a perfect showcase of J*Davey's originality and potential - their upcoming major release on Warner Bros., which is to drop soon, should win them broad audiences, if the "Turn the Lights Out" from their MySpace is any indication of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank Goodness for these guys !, July 13, 2008
By
I have listened to J Davey for about a year now. And I have to say these guys are basically the future. Music is so bad now days that this is a breath of fresh air. We really haven't experienced anything this unique since the discovery of Timbaland and the Neptunes. That was over 10 years ago and we are still graced by there talents thankfully. If you love these guys and Prince (when he was trying harder)? You will love these guys and appreciate there electronic sounds and creativeness ! Go to there myspace page and listen to the new track "Turn the Lights Out". That song is just simply amazing and original !

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it hot in here?, July 2, 2008
J*DaVeY gives me hope for the future of music. It's so promising to see artists like J*DaVeY, Sandogold, Kissey Asplund, Janelle Monae and other rainbow children giving us something different. This album is raw, sensual, fun and awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh...she knows the perfect things to say!!!!, September 3, 2008
By
Like many...I have been a fan of J*DaVeY, consisting of Jack Davey and Brooke D'Leau...for a minute.

After numerous pleas for material from fans at their website http://www.jdaveybaby.com, J*DaVeY hits us off with two albums that have been circulating the net.

"The Beauty of Distortion" is truly next level. From the the first few seconds of "Division Of Joy", you realize that this isn't your mother's R & B!! Bold, funky, sassy and unafraid to experiment, Brook D'Leau lays the groundwork for Jack Davey to entice (Private Parts, No More), to relax (Might As Well f. Georgia Anne Muldrow) or to get some food for thought (Camera (Gangsta). There are even a few extra songs that weren't on the media player of their website added in for good measure...so BUY THIS ALBUM!

"The Land of the Lost" is a pared down version of an EP that was seen earlier this year. Whether she is trading bars with Kardinal Official ("Rock The Dancehall"), Phonte of Little Brother ("Just Because") or seductively instructing the microphone to do her bidding ("Sloow") ....Jack just knows what to say!

With Brook's eclectic soundscapes and Jack's aggressive and unapologetic concepts....there's just too much meat on this plate for anyone to walk away hungry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Auditory ecstasy, August 15, 2008
I am speechless. I don't know what to say about this album except that it is excellent. R&B, funk, punk rock, hip hop, soul. Passionate, honest and lovable lyrics. These adjectives are just scraping the surface of the work that these wonderful artists have produced. J Davey exemplifies the fact that black music and black artists can transcend and encompass any and all genres at the same time.

You must listen to it repeatedly to absorb and catch all of the details, harmonies, lyrics and music. Even the album art takes you to another place and stimulates the "left & right brain". I wish them great success in the future and can only hope that more lovers of true music are able to experience J Davey.

5.0 out of 5 stars intelligent & creative next generation R&B, August 12, 2008
these two cds are a perfect blend of analog sounding electronic beats with smart and smooth soulful lyrics served on top. this is smooth electro R&B at its best. highly recommended if you like those classic 90s albums by donell jones, tlc, blackstreet etc. this is how futuristic soul music should sound like.
i'd also recommend muhsinah, elias damian, peter hadar if you like J*davey!

This music takes me back to Missing Persons, Zappa, [yes, i'm in my 50s], the early days of MTV, and best of all, takes me beyond what i've heard before. I'm not going to dissect it: it's the future with memorable music and lyrics and vocals. Can't listen only to oldies but goodies. There's a whole new genre out there and JDavey is leading the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful album that's not really an album, October 9, 2009
Do you love new wave? How about 80's R&B? Synth-pop, maybe? Well, have I got the album for you! It's the new project from Brook D'Leau and Miss Jack Davey, also known as the duo J*Davey to the record buying public. J*Davey's album, "The Beauty In Distortion/The Land Of The Lost" is really two EP's slapped together to make an album- a surprisingly cohesive one that is a satire of the concept of fame. Being that this album is musically adventurous (and musically ambiguous in some ways), it may take you a while to get into, but once you get into it, you will never put it down.

If you are a fan of early 80's Prince, this album is along that lines- from sound to subject matter, as sex is the revolving theme in the music here, as Prince was doing in his heyday. Being there is a resurgence of new wave inspired artists on the rise as of recently (Kenna, She Wants Revenge, Interpol, Santogold), J*Davey makes a wonderful assertion into that field. As an avowed 80's baby, this album gets the seal of approval from me.
