Book Description

September 24, 2007
Becky Richardson's motto is love 'em and leave 'em. The only man she trusts is her best friend Louie, the local computer shop owner and resident geek. When a mysterious man shows up at a masquerade ball and sweeps her off her feet, will she remember that men are good for only one thing or will she let down her guard and open her heart? Louie Hanson has adored Becky since they were in junior high. He lives under no illusion that the former prom queen will ever see him as anything but her geeky friend. In disguise he arrives at the Valentine's Day Ball and manages to take her breath away. Now he's playing a dual role, knowing when she finds out it will be the end of any hope for a relationship with her and the friendship they once shared. How could he ever have thought this was a good idea? How can he stop fulfilling every one of his own fantasies by having Becky in his arms?

More About the Author

Roni Adams resides in a small hamlet in Upstate New York alongside the Erie Canal. She shares her home with her husband of 25+ years, two of her three sons sons; her older son is studying law in Albany, two cats and a spoiled rotten Siberian Husky. 4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Kisses, TwoLips Reviews, June 27, 2008
By
Linda D. Crooks (Twinsburg, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beauty And The Geek (Paperback)
When Becky Richardson comes into Louie Hanson's computer repair shop, he tries to be nonchalant to cover up his raging attraction to her. She has no idea she turns him into a "quivering mass of lustful need" because he's been hiding it for more than a decade. Becky is oblivious to Louie's true feelings, and he knows he has to keep his feelings to himself or risk ruining their friendship.

Louie doesn't want anyone to know he made a fortune with tech stocks and internet investments, so when he buys the old Ryan House, the mansion that Becky has always dreamed about, he pretends he's been hired to do renovations by some mysterious owner. He relishes the idea of getting to spend time working closely with her, and asks her to help him redecorate the big house. As they spend more time together working on fixing up the mansion, the two friends grow even closer. Becky slowly starts to come around, with an awareness of Louie that surprises her. But he's just her pal Nerdman, right?

Louie yearns to have an excuse to hold Becky, just once, so he plans a masquerade ball at the mansion so he can dress in costume and assume the role of the absentee owner, the mysterious "Mr. M." If he can disguise himself well enough, he'll be able to dance with her and not have to reveal his true feelings. But one thing leads to another, and the enormity of his deception spirals out of control. Ultimately, Becky's trust in Louie is shattered. Then, when Becky learns even more secrets hidden in the house, her life will be changed forever.

I really enjoy a good geeky hero, and Beauty and the Geek delivers a very likeable hero and a story that's full of exquisite sexual tension. Roni Adams has an engaging style that draws you in and keeps you interested until the very end. I'm not entirely convinced that superficial Becky deserves the wonderful Louie, but there are more than enough other elements that will appeal to romance fans. This is a fantastic read for contemporary romance fans who enjoy books with second chances for lost love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beauty And The Geek, October 29, 2007
This review is from: Beauty And The Geek (Paperback)
Louie has loved Becky since junior high, maybe even longer. But she

has never seen him as anything other than her "Nerdman" geeky friend.

Everyone else in the small town has known for years that Louie has

had most of his heart set aside for Becky. He has another secret. He

made it big, millions big, during the dotcom surge. He secretly buys

the old mansion on the hill in hopes of restoring it and enticing

Becky to look at him differently. But things never go as planned and

now Becky thinks Louie is just managing the restoration for Mr.

Mystery. What will happen when Mr. Mystery comes to town for the

Valentines Day masquerade ball?

Becky has decided long ago to never get serious with a man. In the

end they will all just love you and leave you, as her father did

before she was born. She only trusts her best friend "Nerdman" as he

has never wanted her body and is only interested in her friendship, or

so she thinks. She is drawn to Mr. Mystery, who has bought her dream

house and is letting her help to redecorate it. Will she finally see

Louie for the man that he is?

I loved the premise of Beauty And The Geek, but found I didn't love

the book as much as the idea. The main reason was that I found Becky

to be a stuck-up, shallow, uncaring twit. Even when she comes to her

senses in the end, I am still not her fan. I thought it was too

little, too late. Now that I have vented, I do have to say that the

story was well-written and kept me coming back to read more. Also, to

incite such a reaction from me about the lead character shows that the

author made a character believable enough for me to get emotional

about. I think most people will thoroughly enjoy Beauty And The Geek

but don't be surprised if you want to strangle "the beauty".

4.0 out of 5 stars Poor, poor Louie, October 15, 2011
I enjoyed this story, but I felt so sorry for Louie. He had to listen to Becky brag about her love life and then whenever he tried to get close to her she would just brush him off. After a while I had hoped that he would find someone else (even wanted the female geek from Fl to visit and be nicer and better looking than Becky). I was glad he decided to move away near the end, but by then I had gotten tired of him begging her and throwing hurt looks her way.
