Beauty of Ireland,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Beauty of Ireland Collection [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Excellent video. It brought back wonderful memories of my past trip to Ireland. It also gave me new ideas for my next trip. The video has a wonderful blend of lanscape, culture, and history. Unfortunately the video only covers four counties (Donegal, Dublin, Cork, and Kerry), but it covers them very well.

The photography is very good, and the musical accompanyment is enjoyable, but I kept hoping that a narrator would tell me what I am looking at and maybe a short commentary on the scene.

Between the two of these DVD's there is an evening's viewing of about 3 hours of "The Beauty Of Ireland".As the other reviewer said,it is an excellent reminder of the countryside and places of Ireland.I have been to Ireland three times ,travelled all over and naturally saw much of what is covered in these DVD's.There is no end to the beauty of Ireland, and if one spent a lifetime, you could only scratch the surface. Not only is there the beauty of any one place, there is the change of that beauty, depending on the time of day,the change in weather and the time of year.
All that being said;why did I rate this only 2*.Not because it didn't cover everything;that would be impossible. This package is very poorly organized and the first part(about 2 hours) covered only 4 of Ireland's 26 Counties. This would have been very disappointing to anyone ;so they suggested you were getting something extra as a bonus program with a second DVD with a different title "A Touch of Ireland. In the "Bonus ,another hour, several more counties were includes, but nearly half of what was in the "Beauty" was repeated. It was bad enough sitting through this repetition, waiting to see more from other counties;but even then, many counties were not covered and there was nothing from the 6 counties of Northern Ireland at all. Another reason for the 2*'s was that these DVD's were about the equivalent of going through a typical Tourist Guide.About all that was missing was the Restaurants,Places to stay and price ranges. The photography was about as mundane in quality as any amateur could easily produce. One got the impression that there was never any sunny weather as every scene was dull.It was as if they purposely dulled down everything ,even on bright sunny days.A huge element of Ireland's beauty is its music and people which is almost totally ignored. Enough said, this package is just simply mediocre in all respects. There is a lot of great stuff to choose from, but this is not something that will impress you.
