5.0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of Letting Go doesn't dissapoint
I stumbled upon Socialburn by accent about 3 years ago when a friend left their CD "Where You Are" in my dorm room. After one listen of the cd, I was hooked. I am mostly into somewhat heavier stuff (Staind, Mudvayne, Chevelle, Disturbed, etc.), but something about the cd just hit me.

Socialburn are quite the paradox. Here they are, on their second album, "The Beauty Of Letting Go," an album soaked with songs that sound so radio-friendly it's scary. A band who showed this ability on their first album, and got dropped by a drowning record label. They've shown twice that they can fit in, but have hardly had a chance. Sure, you may vaguely remember...

Anyways, this cd (which is actually they're fourth, they had two independant releases before "Where You Are") continues on that great sound. Neil Alday is one the most talented men in the music industry today.

I've been listening to Touch the Sky for awhile, as it has been up on myspace for awhile. The song is very upbeat, lyrically sound, and probably my favorite on the album. While all songs on the cd are very good, I would also recommend checking out Love Hate, Leaving Song, Cold Night, and the newest version of I'm Happy (previously released on "Where You Are," and the independant release "What A Beautiful Waste."

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Rock Album, January 22, 2006
This review is from: Beauty of Letting Go (Audio CD)
"The Beauty of Letting Go" is the follow up to Socialburn's previous label release, "Where You Are." Since that previous record, Socialburn has taken a noticeable step forward, improving upon their already great sound. On a whole, the tracks tend to be a bit more upbeat and the hooks that the band prides themselves on have gotten even better.

Socialburn's sound is unique for current rock bands and takes you back to the grunge days of the early 90's. Lead singer Nail Alday has one of those atpyical, gravelly voices that will remind you at times of other great frontmen like Gavin Rossdale, Eddie Vedder, Raine Maida and Chris Cornell.

If you were a fan of early 90's rock/alternative or are a rock fan in general, you will not be dissappointed if you add this album to your collection. If you want to try a sample, I'd suggest downloading "Be A Man" or "Cold Night" from iTunes or Napster. After trying those tracks out, you'll be ready to buy the album.

And for any parents who are previewing this album for their kids, the lyrics are mature but completely kid safe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep your an eye on these guys!, March 23, 2006
This review is from: Beauty of Letting Go (Audio CD)
This album is the kind you pop in while driving to rock out to! I became a loyal fan when I heard SocialBurn back in 2003 when they dropped, "Where you are". This newest cd, "The Beauty of Letting Go" impressed me even more. I love the way Nail Alday's (lead singer) voice has improved on this album. I love the deepness he has in his voice and lyrics. The track "Get Out Alive" is a song I listen to when I want to escape and indulge in music! I love this band! SocialBurn should be respected by all because of this latest album. If you don't know of them yet, you soon will.

I own both socialburns last cd "where you are" and also this one. Socialburn makes the kind of records that you can listen without skipping a song and to me thats what makes a great band!

Sure, you may vaguely remember "Everyone" and "Down" from 2003, but Socialburn still remain virtually unknown. With "The Beauty Of Letting Go," I had hoped Socialburn would break away from the somewhat generic sound of their debut, but I was let down a bit.

If you love the style, then Socialburn's latest is for you. However, I think they can do better. There are noteworthy moments on "The Beauty Of Letting Go," such as the dark opening track "Be A Man" and the extremely catchy "Touch The Sky" and "Get Out Alive." That being said though, there is hardly any variety. Not only do Socialburn repeat themselves, but they are repeating other artists' work as well. Take "Cold Night." Honestly, this would be a great song -- if I couldn't think of four songs right off the top of my head that sound virtually the same (you'll know what I mean when you hear it). The album loses it's steam very quickly and I find it hard to make it the whole way through. The only songs that really stick out each listen, aside from the ones mentioned would be "The Leaving Song" and "I'm Happy."

For a band that got dropped by a record label and are now on an indie, you would think they would want to stretch out a bit creatively. Such is not the case with "The Beauty Of Letting Go." Honestly, it's just more of the same. I can recommend this album to those who like the modern-rock nu-grunge style bands, but if you want something a little more special, I can't. By the way, if you happen to see them live, beware of the creepy mullet-hawk wearing bass player. The dude needs some clothes that fit him properly, so if you can donate, I believe there is an address somewhere within the liner notes of the album.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little less original, November 25, 2005

I was a fan of the first record 'Where you are' and eagerly awaited the new release. I've started listening to it and its pretty good but a bit less original and interesting than 'Where you are' It seems that getting dropped from a record label made a big impression on socialburn and they've glossed up their songs with with a lot of sing-sing pop-punk anthem choruses to increase the marketability of the record. A lot of the originality of the first record is gone replaced with all to familiar whiney choruses ala blink182. Still some of the tracks remain true to the orginal Socialburn sound and I really hope the record does well for them. Maybe if this record does well it will give them some breathing room to write less obviously commercially directed songs.
