Mr. Chris at his best!,
By Jason (Baltimore, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Beauty of the North - Traditional Favorites from Quebec and Maritime Canada (Audio CD)
Even if i didnt used to take flute lessons from Mr. Chris, i would still be raving about this CD. A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Norman's roots are at the forefront of this recording with several of the tracks representing the beauty and uniqueness of Cape Breton. Also very evident on this CD is the beauty of the French Quebecois music with Billy McComiskey contributing some of the best accordian playing i have ever heard. The standout track is Valse Frontenac, which although i am still young, is the song that i am convinced i will use for the first dance at my wedding. It is the most moving piece of music i have ever heard in my life, and it is impossible not to fall in love with it. The accordian playing is magnificent, and the warmth of the wooden flute only adds to the experience. the Beauty of the North set also deserves kudos for best representing celtic music with a wonderful blend of french, scottish, and cape breton music. i cannot say enough good things about this album, so buy this album, and help pay respect to one of the greatest flute players of our time.

Music To My Ears,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Beauty of the North - Traditional Favorites from Quebec and Maritime Canada (Audio CD)
My Dad heard track # 12, "Valse Fontenac" on the radio and thought it was the most beautiful piece of music he had ever heard. As a result, he puchased "Beauty of the North" for me to enjoy. There only are five instrumentalists playing and there music results in beautiful, melodic and sometimes even haunting music. It is mostly traditional music collected from different parts of the world. The Chicoutimi Set is one of the best sets off The Beauty of the North as it is both cheerful and bouncey, and also great to listen to. Altogether Beauty of the North is a brilliant collection of traditional favourites and is a must buy CD.

I got this cd as a used cd. tryout. He is awesome. The ist thing that came into my head was music from Northern Exposure. If you liked ANY OF IT, PICK UP THIS C.D. I don't think you will be unhappy. It has made me want to find more of Chris's work. I highly recommend if you like Celtic, instrumentals or mellow in general.
