5.0 out of 5 stars good, clean rock
I was searching for christian music that didn't sound like christian music so I thought the best place to look was christian rock. I bought one album and hated it. It was the kinda of soft, unedgy, bland rock that I wasn't looking for. So for the second trip I took a chance on the new Superchick album, Beauty from Pain. 3.0 out of 5 stars Courage
I'm not a Superchic[k] fan and probably never will be but after eharing "Courage" decided to review it. The alum rocks out with a solid, fun track. Perfect for opening this much-anticipated Superchic[k] album. "Pure" isn't so rock. It's good. Don't like the vocals that much. "Bowling Bowl" is about relationshsips (Which thye talk about A LOT!) it has a cool name but kind...

It was the kinda of soft, unedgy, bland rock that I wasn't looking for. So for the second trip I took a chance on the new Superchick album, Beauty from Pain. I had faith that a band with a crazy name like "Superchick" would deliver on the funk.

And they did. If I had to compare I would say they're kinda like No Doubt with their mix of reggae, traditional rock, grunge, and hip hop. And then add a little Evanescene with the angelic female voices blending with the wicked guitars. Superchick is truly Christian rock. I appreciated their "risk" of dealing with subject like depression and breaking up with your boy/girlfriend. Out of the 10 songs I love 9 and like the remainig 1. Definitely, absolutely, positively worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Newer version available on itunes--their best CD by far!!!, October 28, 2006
This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
There is a newer version available now called Beauty from Pain 1.1 that has the song Stand in the Rain on it. For some reason that version is not available yet through Amazon but you can get it on Itunes.

Best Songs on this CD in my opinion
Anthem
Pure
Bowling Ball
Wishes
It's On
Stand in the Rain (their best song EVER in my opinion)
Beauty from Pain (read Joyce Meyer's book Beauty from Ashes for a similar message to Christians who have been through greatly painful experiences)

The song Beauty from Pain is very scriptural.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me. ... To grant [consolation and joy] to those who mourn in Zion--to give them an ornament (a garland or diadem) of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment [expressive] of praise instead of a heavy, burdened, and failing spirit--that they may be called oaks of righteousness [lofty, strong, and magnificent, distinguished for uprightness, justice, and right standing with God], the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:1a,3 Amplified)

You have to read the lyrics because some of the songs have a really great message and you will like the songs better if you understand that aspect. This is not my favorite CD of theirs but still love it.

I discovered this group when I heard their new song "Stand in the Rain" playing on KLOVE, the Christian radio station. I then realized they sing a lot of songs I recognize. They reminded me of some bands I listened to back in college. They have a good sound but a positive message. I'm in my 30's and I appreciate them a lot. Whether you are an adult going through hard times like divorce or a kid just getting through high school, you will definitely appreciate their music. I downloaded all their available cd's off Itunes. They repeat songs on their albums which means you will sometimes get multiple copies of a song if you purchase all their CD's but they tend to be a different remix so it's still ok to have both.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Clean Rock, November 6, 2005

This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
I bought this CD for my daughter. Although it really wasn't for me, I have to say that it's pretty good.

The only song that I had ever heard before it 'We Live'. It is a very catchy tune with great lyrics.

There are some other songs that I really enjoyed also. 'Beauty From Pain', 'Anthem', and 'Pure' are some of the better songs on the album.

The music is really geared for teenagers and young adults. It is especially appealing for young girls. This is good, clean rock with a positive message. A couple of the issues that are addressed in their songs are bad relationships and eating disorders. There is a subtle Christian message in some of the songs also.

If you want to find a good CD to give a teenage girl, this is a good pick. It is one that the parents may just enjoy a bit also.

5.0 out of 5 stars It does not have to mention Jesus, August 15, 2006
This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
The message I am responding to asked "where's Jesus?" In the album. I have been a Christian from a child and always wanted music that spoke of everyday issues for teens and in general people. For people like me we have the word in us and live by it but we want practicality. I have always listended to the Kirk Franklin Jars of Clay the Steven Curtis Chapman the Choirs etc but always wanted to hear what music made by a christian would sound like and this album was it for me. It was what I had been looking for for years. So if the album does not speak to you fine but dont knock the album because it is not music showcasing christianlity.

5.0 out of 5 stars 23-year-old married dude likes this album, July 23, 2006
This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
The worst thing you can say about Superchick is that the lyrics are a bit juvenile compared to other Christian bands like Jars of Clay, Third Day, Christopher Williams, Mercy Me, etc. This is definitely a teeny-bopper band. Also, where's the Jesus? A Christian album without the Jesus is like a Big Mac without the beef.

But for a teeny-bopper band, these guys can flat-out play. No other Christian band is nearly as hard-edged. They don't need a drum machine like Jars of Clay does. I like "Suddenly" because it's such a delightfully blatant rip-off of "Pardon Me" by Incubus. Bad artists imitate, good artists steal, and Superchick knows who to steal from. The bass work on "Pure" is terrific, as is the guitar and drum work on "Wishes."

For me, this is the perfect album to work out to. "Anthem" is the perfect kickoff to my workout routine. Yes, I like to work out to girl-power songs. I'm handicapped and was basically raised female, even though I have male hormones. What can I say? They went for 10 hooks and hit on 7 or 8 of them, and if that makes me a bad musician, then I'm a bad musician. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Christian Rock!!!, August 27, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
I loved the lyrics and guitars most of the time!

Anthem- (Number Three Radio) A little too girly for me, but it was good. Even though I'm not a girl, I should be unbiased and give it a 4/5.

Pure- (Number One Radio) 5/5! Awesome! My second favorite on the cd!! Loved the programmer gigs in the beginning (when it echoed "pure flow, water around" in the mixy kind of tone)!

Bowling Ball- Somewhat dorky chorus, but otherwise, lyrics and music were great! 4.5/5

Stories- (Number Four Radio) I have the TobyMac CD, Welcome to Diverse City, and loved it on there, but here it has different programming/producing and even better sound all together! great rap... 5/5

Wishes- 3.7/5. Great viola/strings in the beginning, but after the first ten seconds it went down hill. "I wish we could have worked it out, I wish I didnt have these doubts, I wish I didnt have to wonder just what you are doing now. I wish I didn't know inside that it wont work out for you and I. I wish that I could stop this wishing and just say my last goodbye." "I wish" has become a cliche to me after hearing this.

Beauty From Pain- 5/5. Great Piano on Max Hsu's part, great vocals on Tricia and Melissa's part, great writing on everyones part. Nuff said.

It's On- 4.5/5- Great verse lyrics, bad chorus (it's on and on and on and on and on and on- that's the chorus and the description of the chorus). Ok writing and great guitars.

Suddenly- 4/5- A little vague, otherwise great!

Courage- 4.5/5- Great lyrics about Melissa's former eating disorder. Great pianos too, but mixing/programming effects do not belong with piano. Definitely going to be better at the concert I'm going to today.

We Live- 5.5/5 :) (Number 2 Radio) The best song on the CD. Great acoustic guitars, great lyrics, great vocals, great message. Mix of Rap/Song that's great!!

(Number _ Radio means radio hit, and what number as in 1 being best etc.)

As a person that struggles with Eating Disorders, "Courage" has really touched me. I love it so much. The album gets 5 stars for that song alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing! Superchic[k] Rock!, April 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
Okay, so I'm not under 13, just too lazy to fill out all the forms. I've been a fan of Superchic[k] since I was 14 with their first CD Karaoke Superstars. Since then, I have thoroughly enjoyed Last One Picked and Regeneration. I have been anticipating this CD for months and when it arrived I was thrilled. Mine came with an extra autographed cover, where Tricia had written Job 23:8-10. I looked it up and it epitomises the feeling of this album, namely the title track, Beauty from Pain. This CD is amazing, it is mainly about lifting you up, making sure you know that you aren't the only one going through hard times.
I would review each song individually, but they are all worth 5 stars so it would just be pointless. Check out their website, www.superchickonline.com for clips from each song. Buy this CD, for yourself, your sister, your girlfriend, anyone. It is mainly girl-oriented though. I love it and I just turned 18. My sisters adore it too, they're aged 12 and 14. Check it out, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It ROCKS!!!!, April 3, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Beauty From Pain (Audio CD)
I've been waiting 3 months for this Cd to come out and when i got it in the mail and listened to it i was blown away i had heard all the 30 sec. clips from the songs but nothing was better then listening to all of it. This Cd wasn't about petty high school cat fights though. Superchick has matured and are still singing about serious topics. Love, death, enocouragement, and female empowerment. I highly recommend it
