5.0 out of 5 stars Junie B. Jones is a Beauty Shop Guy
My kids and I love Junie B. Jones...we have every book! By far, Junie's misadventures as a beautician are the funniest yet! She practices cutting hair on everything and when she's left with sprigs herself...well we just about rolled on the floor in laughter! What's not funny about sprigs? Just saying the word makes us giggle! If you have a child between the ages of 5...

3.0 out of 5 stars Reader beware!
Cute book as all of the other Junie B. books, but beware! I read this story to my kindergarten class and one child decided to try his hand at being a 'beauty shop guy' himself! He cut about 2 inches off of one little girl's long blond hair and a big chunk out of his own. I won't read it again to my kinders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Junie B. Jones is a Beauty Shop Guy, August 15, 2000

My daughter and I stayed up late for the past 2 nights reading this book and we absolutely loved it! We laughed so hard it brought tears to our eyes. I know that Junie B.'s grammar is not the best in the world but that is what makes it so funny and believable. I think the fact that your child is reading and enjoying it is much more important. My daughter and I look forward to reading at night now! Thank you, Barbara Parks!

5.0 out of 5 stars a great read for young children, November 19, 2002
A Kid's Review
I want to tell you about a series of books that I love. They are called Junie.B Jones books. The first thing I want to tell you is they are so funny. One of my favorite books in the series is Junie.B.Jones is a Barber Shop Guy. It's about her dad who has to go get a hair cut, and Junie wants to tag along. When they get there is when the trouble begins. She sees the barber cut her dad's hair and starts to ask the barber lady all sorts of questions. Later on that day she decides to work on her baby doll's hair, her fuzzy bunny slippers, her dog , and last her own hair. After her mom and dad find out, she has to go back to the barber shop, and has to get a really short haircut. Now as Junie says that is the end of my famous story.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a hard book for someone learning to read incorrect grammer and spelling?, January 5, 2006
The student I am working with was having a lot of trouble with the grammer and spelling in this book. I asked the teacher if it was a good book for someone having trouble reading. Her answer was about this book even though I did not tell which Author or book it was. "Is she reading Junie B. Jones Book? I know that these books have a lot of incorrect grammar. I thought I took those books off the shelves becasue other mentors commented about the problem with the grammar. If she can not see the difference between the correct and incorrect grammar then she should not read the book. Thanks for your concern. I also got your other email about the "runned" problem. I will make a note of it." If the child read well and gets that it is a joke. These books maybe fine but not for a school age child trying to learn to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Cute To Speak, January 2, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Junie B. Jones Is A Beauty Shop Guy (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (Junie B. Jones (Pb)) (School & Library Binding)
This is the first Junie B. Jones book I have read and I think it is too cute to not buy. If you like the Rugrats on Nickeloedeon, you will just fall in love with little Junie. She has everything from bad grammer to little crushes and she is too funny! This is definately a 4-6 year old book, but who cares about age suggestions. You must buy it and read it to understand me! I definately recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Junie B. Jones is a Beauty Shop Guy, September 29, 2000
By A Customer
I stumbled upon this book at the perfect moment: right after my daughter (age 4) cut her own bangs... Twice! Although a change from the usual picture books I read to her, she was entranced and we read it cover to cover in 45 minutes.

While it is true that the grammar used is not always proper, the book is written in first person from a kindergartener's perspective. In our case, that made it all the more appealing. We are deciding what our next Junie B. Jones adventure will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading for the younger student, October 22, 1999
I bought this book to read to my first grade class. I came home and read it. I laughed so hard I could hardly finish reading it. I'm glad I read it first because now I will use some props to read it such as a ski mask, shower curtain, and hat with horns. I can't wait to read it to my students!

5.0 out of 5 stars Junie B. Jones is a weird girl., October 23, 1999

The book was great! It was great because she cut her own hair. I liked it because she changed her name to Pinky Gladys Guzmann. I ready it until 9:30 and I started it at 9:00. It was very funny when she cut her dog's fur off and she cut her stuffed animals hair, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, September 17, 2009
If your child is a misbehaving imp, or tends in that direction, I would probably skip these books and look for a better model since Junie B. cannot be relied on to be a good example (the opposite, in fact). My daughter is a kind of "goody-goody" by-the-rules kid. If your kid is like that, I doubt she'd be damaged by these books. My daughter loves to disapprove of Junie B's behaviour. Her only regret is that the punishments meted out to her are not as severe as what she would give.

I originally stayed away from these books because of the grammar reviews but when I was out of the country our babysitter introduced them (the French versions). They were the first chapter books my daughter read in French (her second language). She thought the grammatical errors - which were easy for her to detect even with only first grade French (and easier in her native English) -- were hilarious. Kids who capable of reading these books have long since given up constructions like "bestest." I believe kids who read these books will be amused and will read more. With these chapter books under their belt, they'll move on to better literature.
