3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea but tough to use with an active baby!
Bebe au Lait/Hooter Hiders are a really great idea and they probably work great for a lot of BFing moms/babies. I have a VERY active, inquisitive little boy though and it's been tough. I bought Chocolat (which is a really beautiful print...I love it!). The problem is that if I'm BFing in a sunny area, the light shines through the material...under the cover, the affect is...

The wire at the top holds the cover so you can see baby while feeding, and the tie around the neck keesp it on instead of fumbling with a blanket. It helps when you want to be little more discreet with breastfeeding, and also helps new breastfeedings moms take time to have baby latch on well. If a woman is comfortable breastfeeding everywhere, this product may not be necessary. For those of us who believe in breastfeeding, but want to be private it is a great product. It's nice that it comes in a variety of colors as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, April 8, 2007
I agree. This is a great product. I'm not embarassed to BF my children, however I do have a strong sense of modesty. This nursing cover allows you complete privacy in a stylish way. If you think the product is too pricey you can go to a fabric store and make one yourself (if you're handy like that-I"m not). I love all the fabric choices and corresponding burp clothes. I've given this as a gift at several baby showers and the moms' LOVE it! I'm expecting my next child shortly and can't wait to use the cover again, especially since I'll be running after my toddler while BF.

Bebe au Lait/Hooter Hiders are a really great idea and they probably work great for a lot of BFing moms/babies. I have a VERY active, inquisitive little boy though and it's been tough. I bought Chocolat (which is a really beautiful print...I love it!). The problem is that if I'm BFing in a sunny area, the light shines through the material...under the cover, the affect is like stained glass and it totally distracts my boy. (Kind of funny, I know!) The result is that he keeps coming off to look at the pretty colors and trying to get him to latch on again is like wrestling. Add a fabric cover to the mix and the result is total chaos. Instead of making me feel like I can BF more discreetly, I feel like I'm putting on a show. However, I'd have the same problem with a blanket, so at least this cover didn't fall off! I have had better success with the cover when it's been dark or dusky out, or when my son is in a more mellow, hungrier frame of mind, lol. Anyway, I think that like with all baby products, this cover will be a lifesaver for some, but not all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great quality, September 26, 2009

I bought this when my baby was 6 months old and wish I had ordered it when she was a newborn. It is great! It really helped me get over my apprehension about nursing in public. The wire around the neckline to allow you to see your baby while nursing is genius. One thing to consider is that when you hitch up your shirt to give baby access, your back & sides will be still exposed for all to see, especially if you have a bigger/older baby. The nursing cover really only provides coverage in front (where it counts the most!). You can get around this by wearing a nursing tank or button up shirt, or by wearing a sweater or jacket while nursing. Like I said, this is a great product, it absolutely does what it is supposed to, I am just super-modest and prefer coverage everywhere. Nobody needs to see my muffin top.

I love the handy little pocket sewn onto one corner. I do wish that there were 2 pockets, one on the left and one on the right.

Overall, this apron is very high quality. I have washed & dried it many times and it still looks great. If you order black, beware that the fabric seems to be a magnet for pet hair, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, July 22, 2007
Great for nursing in public - wish I would have had one of these with my first child. Light weight, collar is great for viewing baby - only downside is if you are outside on a windy day. Light weight fabric means you need to tuck fabric into you to keep from blowing open*, but otherwise a great, great product. (*recently experienced this!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great coverage and pretty!, December 15, 2007

Yes, it's kind of expensive for what it is, but it's so pretty and great for those who are even the slightest bit modest about breastfeeding in public. Now I feel like I'm not offending prudes or attracting weirdos, and can breastfeed with confidence!

Pros:
+ Easy to use, minimal or no adjusting really
+ Rolls compactly
+ Great coverage, even with wriggly infant (though I've only been using it for 3 mos now...)
+ Pretty!

Cons:
- Expensive
- Yes, it screams "Look at me, I'm breastfeeding!"

3.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for small infants but not older babies, February 9, 2010

This review is from: Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover (Baby Product)
I have overall been very happy with this product until lately. I purchased this before my son was born and have used it extensively, each time I nurse around anyone besides family, since my son was born 6 1/2 months ago. I chose the chocolate color because I liked the color scheme and design, and my son seems to enjoy looking at it as well. I like being able to look at my son while he's breastfeeding and the adjustable loop around my neck is easy to adjust. I have used it many times as a lightweight "sun cover" for his carseat as well and a burp cloth if I don't have anything else around since it has a small, thick terry cloth patch (with a pocket I've never used). My only complaint is that it isn't the best cover for a squirmy baby who likes to pull on the cover. Because it doesn't cover all the way around, just the front area, it is sometimes difficult for me to stay covered when my son is less sleepy and more active. The amount of use I've gotten out of this cover justifies the money spent and I'll continue to use this even with our squirmy guy. I would buy this again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for fashionable discreet nursing, March 13, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I used to hate these things when I saw other women using them because I thought it just screamed "hey look at me I'm breastfeeding!" Now that I am breastfeeding I realized that these things are very handy. A blanket just doesn't always work to cover you up- especially in the beginning when you really have to position the newborn to get a proper latch. With this you can see what your doing without exposing yourself to everyone. This print is very cute and would work for a boy or a girl. It may let everyone know that you are breastfeeding, but it least it doesn't let everyone know what your breasts look like :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cover up for nursing moms, July 1, 2009

I really like how this cover up fits over me. It has plenty of fabric so that I can make sure I'm properly covered. The best feature is that it has a wire inside it that allows a window down to baby, so there is always direct eye contact. The fabric is light weight and the pattern is beautiful. I've gotten many compliments on it when I wear it out. One word of caution, always fold it back up the way you receive it and put it in your diaper bag. Some other mommies just roll it up without much care of the wire at the top and they end up bending it out of shape and that really defeats the point of buying this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone..., September 29, 2010
By
JNPMLS (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I have received three nursing covers. The Bebe Au Lait is of higher quality and easier to use. It is generously sized. However, I still have difficulty with it. I believe the trouble stems from having a larger chest (F/G cup size), which means that when my little boy nurses, he is fairly low -- unless he is supported by a pillow and my breast by a towel or burp clothes or my hand. The material creases and folds inwards between the stiff rim and my son's head; therefore, I can no longer see him. It also makes latching on properly a nearly impossible feat. When using it in more public locations, I have had to latch him on with the cover tossed to the side (along with modesty), then covering up. Based on the pictures, it seems that I have to hold my son lower than the women modeling the cover hold their baby. I will continue practicing with the cover; I think eventually I will find the right way to position myself, the baby and the cover so that I can remain covered and comfortable... and if not, it still is my preferred option for nursing in public.
