This review is from: Bebo De Cuba (Audio CD)
This is another excellent recording from master Cuban pianist and composer Bebo Valdes. The package includes 2 audio CDs and one DVD. In this two masterpieces for brass band, Latin percussion, and piano, Bebo uses popular Latin rhythms such as mambo, bembe, son, guaracha, guajira, batanga, comparsa, guaguanco, descargas, baladas, and joropo.
His band includes many famous musicians like Raul Agraz (trumpet), John Benitez (bass), Steve Berrios (timbales), Luis Bonilla (trombon), Pablo Calogero (sax), Milton Cardona (congas), Jimmy Delgado (timbales), Paquito D'Rivera (clarinet, sax), Bob Franceschini (sax), Andy Gonzalez (bass), Joe Gonzalez (bongos), Edgardo Miranda (guitar), Michael Philip Mossman (trumpet), Bobby Porcelli (sax), Dafnis Prieto (drums), Douglas Purviance (trombon), Mario Rivera (sax), Juan Pablo Torres (trombon), Diego Urcola (trumpet), Rickard Valdes (timbales), Papo Vasquez (trombon), Ray Vega (trumpet), John Walsh (trumpet). The DVD in this package is in the PAL format: suitable for some European, Australian, and Latin American countries. The recent Latin Grammy Award for this recording is very well deserved. Felicitaciones Bebo !!!

SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL,

This review is from: Bebo De Cuba (Bonus Dvd) (Audio CD)
THIS TWO CD, ONE DVD CREATION FROM THEN-86-YEAR-OLD CUBAN PIANIST BEBO VALDES CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A WORK OF ART, A TRUE MASTERPIECE. ONE LISTEN AND YOU WILL BE HOOKED. LISTENING TO IT IS AN EDUCATION IN AFRO-CUBAN, SALSA, CHA CHA, MAMBO, & LATIN PERCUSSION MUSIC. EACH CD IS A SUITE, THE FIRST ONE FOCUSES ON THE BIG BAND MUSIC OF CUBA FROM THE 1950'S, THE SECOND CD FEATURES LATIN JAZZ IN VARIOUS FORMS, ALL PLAYED TO PERFECTION BY SOME OF NY'S BEST LATIN MUSICIANS, MOSTLY BALLADS. I HAVE ALL OF BEBO'S OLD RECORDINGS FROM CUBA (HIS BAND "SABOR DE CUBA" WAS ONE OF THE BEST AND HELPED SHAPE THE SOUND OF CUBAN MUSIC FOR YEARS TO COME): THESE MODERN RECORDINGS GO BACK TO THOSE DAYS AND HE IS IN TOP FORM. THIS MAN TOOK A 30 YEAR HIATUS FROM PLAYING MUSIC, WHAT A SHAME, BECAUSE HE IS STILL AS PROFICIENT NOW AS HE WAS YEARS AGO. FANTASTIC ARRANGEMENTS AND RECORDING. YOU WILL ENJOY THE DVD, BEBO IN NY AS WELL
