A recent discover of the jazz world, Frank Morgan is not a newcomer, he is not a kid. He was just forced to stay away from the jazz world due to drug and alcohol addiction problems, that caused him years of jail detention. This is the sad story behind him. And what a shame! Yes because he's a phenomenal bopper, and this live album is here to prove this! He plays bop phrasing, the bop idiom without coping the legends of this music, he displays his own personality. He uses no cliches at all, he plays freely over classic standards and bop themes, with fire and abandon. He gives to bop the oxigen it needs, and he helps this immortal music to enter with full strenghts the new millenium. I have several albums from Frank Morgan, and they are all great efforts. "Yardbird suite" album is fantastic, and the ballad project on Telarc (can't remember the title) is nothing less than divine!
Bop is still alive, thanks to Frank Morgan too.
