“The author presents an overview of the history of antisemitism in countries as diverse as Egypt and Argentina, Ethiopia and Poland and Hungary and the United States. Two concluding chapters draw together some consistent themes from the survey: for example, antisemitism is more frequently orchestrated and encouraged by official state organs than by spontaneous and unsanctioned grass roots opinion; and in only one of the twelve countries is there any significant evidence of government attempts to suppress it (the Soviet Union in the 1920s and early 1930s).
