Young & Hungry, April 5, 2010
Joe Beck & a very unknown David Sanborn 'Beck & Sanborn' is one of the very few Jazz recordings I continue to go back to everytime I'm searching for something new and completely fresh sounding. That is, whenever I tire of the 4000 + C.D.'z in my music collection, this is always that breath of fresh air.
An incredible masterpiece welted together because of 2 factors, 1st both musicians were looking for the same end result 'to finally acheive the success that's so far eluded them' and 2nd, that big break they hadn't found yet.
Time & time again you hear the same story "blah, blah, blah... being in the right place at the right time. This is one of those rare moments. The experience of a seasoned musician in Joe Beck & the hunger of a young gun in David Sanborn waiting for the right moment! These 2 incredible musicians bounce back and forth off one another throughout this entire recording simply killing it left and right. Rather the tempo is slow or fast, they rock and take jazz to an entire new level.
After all I've said with complete satisfied praise of the shear talent and ability on these 6 songs, no other recording by either artist has caught my ear since this gem hit the streets back in 1975. Yes, David Sanborn is unstoppable and Joe Beck went on to record some womderful music but for me, this was an incredible peak musically for both men. Now, I'm passing this beautiful piece of work down to my son who's 12 and just learning the saxophone. If you do not own this masterpiece, my review says it all. Worth every penny you'll spend my friend!

stellar driving jazz guitar, November 18, 2008
Of my 10,000 albums (I guess they're cds now), this is easily in the top 10. Like many solid albums, this one grows on you with each listening. If you're a fan of inventive, tasty tasty guitar you will love this. The phrasing is solid and melodic. Even if you're not a real jazz fan, but like guitar music in general, this is worth the experiment. I think this is the best I've ever heard Joe Beck play and the interaction with David Sanborn is great. Unlike some albums where the guitar is great, but there is little to the songs, this is a compositionally superb album. This goes in and out of print, so I would recommend snatching it up while its available.
