This review is from: Beckerath Retrospective (Audio CD)
These two CDs, are a must for organ music lovers and a collectible for the musicians.
The well-known builder is a master in his very personal genre and his art is widely shown in these CDs. The repertoire is deliberately chosen for its versatile expression and the touch of Beckerath is clear through the choice of the pieces. Luedecke pursuits this specific goal of expression. The variety and richness of registration in the colourful aspect of the sounds appear more in the first CD if we compare with the quieter ambiance of the second one. The Beckerath from Saint-Joseph Oratory in Montreal Canada doesn't appear here and its frankly a miss ! Despite the fact that a piece, the Fantasie from Sonata no III (1983) from Raymond Daveluy, former organist of the Oratory for over 30 years is executed here on the second CD, the fact is that it was certainly composed with and for this instrument in mind and a very personal touch of Daveluy in sounding is largely due to the work of Beckerath. |
