My wife and I bought this to go with our pond kit. When we finished our pond in early June 2010, we began having severe algae problems to the point where you couldn't even see 2 inches into the water. It was suggested that we use a box filter so we purchased this one. After a month, there was no difference in the water condition. As soon as we replaced this with a UV filter canister, we saw a difference within 3 days.
