My kindergartener loves Tinker Bell and the fairies of Pixie Hollow (well, actually anything fairy-related) and since she is a beginning reader who is getting more independent in her reading, I was looking for some engaging readers that would interest her. The Step Into Reading series of books have various titles that interest her, and the fairies of Pixie Hollow are featured in a couple of beginning readers.
"Beck's Bunny Secret" is categorized as a Step 3 reader, recommended for Grades 1-3 (but might also suit younger readers who are gaining fluency). This involves reading on one's own (though it can certainly be read to a child). My daughter enjoyed reading this independently, with some help from me with a few words that she had difficulty pronouncing, such as "gasped" and "earlier". The sentences range from short to long sentences, but they are easy enough to deal with for a child who has advanced through the Step One and Two series of readers. These books have really helped my daughter improve her reading fluency and I can see her confidence in reading increase.
Visual learners who love seeing illustrations in their books will also adore this series of readers as they are filled with colorful illustrations. This particular title contains beautiful illustrations of the various fairies that inhabit Pixie Hollow, and also an adorable bunny that had my daughter (also a bunny lover) oohing and aahing over the pictures. The engaging characters and simple plot make this a wonderful reader for children who are improving their reading fluency.

My 7 year old daughter is in the 2nd grade. We moved from another district during the summer. She finished the 1st grade a little ahead of where she was suppossed to be, according to the prior school. She started 2nd grade behind where she should have been, according to the new shcool (which has a much higher rating - we moved to get our daughter into a better school).
So we have searched for reading materials that would engage and interest our daughter in doing alot of reading, so that she could "catch up" to the new shcools higher standards. The Disney Fairy Series, and Disney Princesses Series have really caught her attention, and she loves reading these books. She is quickly making progress as well.
Each book takes about 30 - 45 minutes or so to read, which is perfect. One our daughter starts reading one of these books, she can't put it down. She has a short attention span, like most kids her age, and he books the teacher was ending home were not engaging her, and she would start fiddling around, and lose focus. These do a much better job of keeping her interested.
If anyone else has a 2nd grade girl trying to improve her reading, I would highly recommend you buy this series of books.
