THE COLLEGE CD,
By Megan C. Newman (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Become Small & Go (Audio CD)
I think there is a rule written somewhere that college students must listen to indie music. This is the CD that brought indie to my attention, and has been my favorite since. I have a strong love for BTS, Quazi, Pedro the Lion and all the others, but this has remained the best CD i have ever purchased. This has become the soundtrack to my life... I study, sleep, and drive to this band. It has proved to be optimal in every case. I played it so much that I had to burn myself a copy before the sound became too distorted! And it is impossible to tire of, only getting better every time. I cannot express the excellence of this CD! Buy it now and you will be forever changed! And yes, even a Seattle girl can listen to a Cali band.

Three-quarters of a breathtaking album.,

This review is from: I Become Small & Go (Audio CD)
I play this CD quite a bit, and each time I am equally thrilled, yet puzzled, because the I Become Small And Go sounds likes a compliation between two different bands. One of those bands is woeful (see Prison Mix and Black Hole). However, the other band, the band I like to believe is the "real" Creeper Lagoon, has created some truly wonderful music. Examples of this excellence include Wonderful Love, Tracy, and Dear Deadly. In addition, while each of those tunes is terrific, Dreaming Again is even better, and positively haunting in its lushness. In sum, those four songs make the album a worthwhile purchase, even if they are merely a glimpse of what is possible rather than what has heretofore been realized, as a total packaged album, by Creeper Lagoon.

Phenomenal Production matched with Solid Song Writing,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Become Small & Go (Audio CD)
This album is a must have for any serious fan of indie/low-fi (although the production is anything but lo-fi; its a lo-fi aesthetic with top notch layered production). Do you like the synergies of Sebadoh? Similar song-writing duo here; one faces the pensive and introspective, the other covers the pop. While most reviews (here at least) have focused on the lighter & catchier material, I find the pensive more impressive. Song #10 in particular is fantastic. Sebadoh + The Sea & Cake.

Moody alt.rock for fans of Pavement & Radiohead,
By Pop Kulcher "Pop Kulcher" (San Carlos, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Become Small & Go (Audio CD)
Pop Kulcher Review: This San Francisco band has been the center of extensive local hype based on a short EP and their live gigs. When I first saw 'em live, though, I was pretty let down -- too loud, too dirge-like. The second time I saw 'em, they blew me away -- with the volume down a notch, and better sound, they resembled a moodier Pavement (tuneful, pleasant with a somber undercurrent). Fortunately, the debut album jibes more closely with my second live experience. While at first listen you can detect elements of your basic post-grunge clever art/angst, the catchier tunes (most notably the first four songs on the album) and some random bursts of sampling and odd grooves do mix things up a bit (though I could do without some of the slower, Nick Cave-like pieces that populate the second half of the album). Pavement's guitarist has claimed to be a fan of Echo & The Bunnymen; Creeper Lagoon sound like what would happen if Pavement actually tried sounding like Echo. At best, an American version of Radiohead; at worst, a reasonably solid debut that would go down well on a cloudy day.

Awesomeness in a Disc,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: I Become Small & Go (Audio CD)
There are heaps of praise which I could lay upon the feet of this CD, and creeper lagoon. I could go on about how I had to buy this CD from amazon because my last one wore out. I could even talk about the first time I saw them open for Harvey Danger (Hey it was a free ticket) and they were so good that that went down as one of my top five concerts (and is where i bought the CD in the first place).
But I will endeavor to avoid personal opinion. This CD, start to finish, is a well crafted entertainment machine. Though it was largely lost in the late nineties deluge of "similar" styled musicians, I Become Small and Go is about three cuts above its contemporaries. The vocals, instrumentals, and even the track order come together to create a listening experience. However, therein lies the problem. Many of the tracks are somewhat similar, and indistinct from the others, this makes individual songs not as strong. However taken has a whole the tracks works masterfully together. I am not certain reliance on other tracks for support is such a bad thing, but there it is. Try it out, its awesome and worth a listen... if you can find it. Also keep listening to the last track, there is a bonus track!

A music company rep friend gave me this album and said i had to listen to it. next thing i know I'm making copies for my family and friends and taking my best friend to their concert at the Cat's Cradle. You can't help listening to this album a lot once you possess it. "Empty Ships", "Dear Deadly" (the best song), "Dreaming Again", "Chasing Tracy", etc are all awesome. My friend Sylvia (i made her a copy too) loves the line in "Sylvia" that goes, "Sylvia, you're such a gas". The lyrics and music are yummy. this album was THE album of my summer 1998

This CD has spent more time in my player than any other CD I've bought in the past year. And with somewhere between 400 and 500 CD's, that is saying a lot. I was lucky enough to see this band open for the Archers of Loaf at the Metro (I think thats where it was - if I'm wrong, my apologies to the band) in Chicago. Excellent live sound, excellent CD. I can hardly wait for the next album!!! Do yourself a favor, buy this CD.

What begins as an alternative cd turns into chanting by song number five. Then it goes into slightly rap. This is one of the best cd's I have bought it has everything from the songs you want to listen to over and over to Claustriphobia which is hidden late in song 11. Great cd.

Creeper Lagoon: Two Thumbs Up,
By Erick Roff (Walrus16@aol.com) (Seattle, Washington) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Become Small & Go (Audio CD)
As I near purchasing my 200th CD, I decided to choose my favorite among the many. Without hesitating I chose Creeper Lagoon's "I Become Small And Go" album. This CD is my pride and joy. The album begins with an excellent start: the first song on the record, "Wonderful Love", just rolls with its beautiful verses and soothing lyrics and "Tracy" follows with its driving chords. From here it just gets better. "Empty Ships," which appeared on Creeper Lagoon's first EP and on the DEAD MAN ON CAMPUS Soundtrack, is definitely a song to crank up loud. The CD is so good that even the hidden song, "Claustrophopia", deserves a few minutes of waiting after track eleven. The climax of the entire album is the fourth track, "Dreaming Again." It is almost impossible to keep your eyes from watering while listening to this gorgeous song. If you are looking for an all-around feel good album that is worth your money AND the shipping and handling, look no further: you've found it.
