5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I am a father and wish I had this book prior to stepping into the land unknown!
There was no one "father enough" for me to relate when my wife was expecting, How I wish this book would have been in print then.
I have seen that many fathers are disengaged or hanging on by the seat of their pants and can't offer any sound advice or any positive tid bits...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a real Christian Book
Anyone who says this is a 'Bible Thumper' book has obviously never read it. I purchased this book because it had enough good reviews along with some negative reviews due to its 'Christian' content. I purchased the book because I wanted to improve my personal character and become a better spiritual head of my household and become a better husband and father...

There was no one "father enough" for me to relate when my wife was expecting, How I wish this book would have been in print then.
I have seen that many fathers are disengaged or hanging on by the seat of their pants and can't offer any sound advice or any positive tid bits. This book covers many aspects that a new father may assume no one else expereinces.
The author's inspiring and positive view on life radiates between the lines and provides help and guidance, to lay out familiar ground work that you will find refreshing, yet soothing.
I am sure this book will help many fathers-to-be to go bravely into the next phase of their lives. With this book on their nightstand they can expereince father-hood on a totally higher level!
Great Work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, March 23, 2005
As the father of a 21 month year old little girl, I have read several books marketed to new dads. None of them have been as applicable and life-giving as "Becoming a Dad." The balance of addressing both the practical as well as the deeper questions I am wrestling with is so refreshing. As the authors point out, it took me just a few minutes to learn how to change a diaper, yet they call me to a place of true reflection on how to be fully present for my family. I cannot imagine a better gift to give both my wife and daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 13, 2011

Great book for new young dads. I got this book for my husband for Christmas and started looking through it before I wrapped it and ended up reading it a bit. I liked it so much that I had to give it to my husband right away - I didn't wait until Christmas. He loved it! The book has a lot of information about getting ready to be a dad - I wish I had gotten it before our daughter was born. It's easy to skip over those sections though and get to the other great advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars must-read for new dads, March 22, 2006

This book was not what I was expecting, but was more relevant than I ever would have thought! There are so many specifics in the book that I loved, but I'd be writing all day. Suffice it to say that Becoming A Dad really confronts the biggest fears of new and upcoming dads such as myself. I finished the book with many of my fears at ease. The book is brutally honest for the up and downs of fatherhood, and gives great practical advice for dealing with both. I will definetly pass this book along to other soon-to-be-dads.

My wife and I are having our first child in March 2005 and I was given this book as a gift. It is so poignant, so practical, and really gets to the heart of being a Father. I want to reread it at least a couple more times before March and will give it to others who are in my same position! Extremely helpful and a MUST READ for all Dads!

5.0 out of 5 stars single best resource available, August 2, 2006
This book could very well be the single best rescource available on becoming a dad. It does well to blend spiritual, emotional, and practical advice soon-to-be dads (and and their wives) need to keep in mind as they prepare to become fathers. It helps soon-to-be dads work through all the "what if.." questions and offers solid practical advice on money issues and how to take a temporary back seat when the baby is born, how to blend spirituality and fatherhood, dealing all kinds of different emotions and the like. It is all there, and if it is not, then what is there can easily be applied to any given situation.

One reviewer said it is all "obvious" information. Right. If it was so "obvious" then why are there so many problematic dads who have no idea what they are doing or need to do to be good dads?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, July 12, 2008

I became a Dad on August 25, 2007. In preparation for having a child, I read this book. It was helpful to me.

I was concerned about being a Dad due to my up-bringing. The book was practical, insightful, and a easy read.

I even passed it on to someone I knew who was about to be a Dad also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great encouragement, February 1, 2006
This book is written in a very approachable style by two guys who are not afraid to share their shortcomings along with their successes, allowing the rest of us to learn from their stories. In turn, we realize that our own shortcomings can be overcome and turned into positives. This book would also be great resource for moms interested in understanding a dad's perspective on parenting.
