5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant literary study, January 11, 2011

This review is from: Becoming Faulkner: The Art and Life of William Faulkner (Hardcover)
This is one of the best books I have read not just on Faulkner's work, but on the work of any writer. It needs to go on the very short list of "must reads" for literary studies. I wish more academics and authors in general would approach artists like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books About Faulkner, November 2, 2010
This review is from: Becoming Faulkner: The Art and Life of William Faulkner (Hardcover)
I have read and re-read a great deal of Faulkner over the years, including several biographies and studies. This volume is truly insightful and inspiring. So much literary criticism is self-serving and over-reaching, but in this you are presented with ideas that I think even Bill himself would approve of: a must for any Faulkner student.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faulkner AS IS and WAS, December 29, 2009

This review is from: Becoming Faulkner: The Art and Life of William Faulkner (Hardcover)
An erudite and in-depth analysis of the work of the Oxford master. Weinstein eschews biographical minutia for overview and encapsulation. Nuanced and beguiling--obviously the result of years immersion in Faulknerian studies...An insightful exegesis providing as clear a portrait of Faulkner--his thought processes, beliefs, and character--as has been hitherto provided.

5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding Faulkner, October 25, 2010

This review is from: Becoming Faulkner: The Art and Life of William Faulkner (Hardcover)
A brilliant book that makes Faulkner understandable to a non-academician. I immediately went out and re-read "As I lay Dying" and "Sound and the Fury"-- what a revelation. A must book for anyone who needs or seeks a better understanding of one of America's greatest writers.
