Editorial Reviews

Review

"Randolph's language flows as smoothly as a chalkstream, and the book gets better as it goes along, just like a fly fisher learning the craft. Becoming a Fly Fisher appeals not only for its entertainment value but for the anglers to follow to the "tenth level."--Fly Fisherman

"His personal quiet demeanor is in this book, and if you want to catch the significance of his points, you have to read for content on every page."-- FlyFisher

From the Back Cover

John Randolph's wise and riveting memoir of precisely how one begins to fly fish, learns the dozens of necessary skills, and finally advances to true mastery is destined to become an angling classic. It begins with early days on "brookie water," an idyll of fishing small creeks for the most beautiful of native fish, and advances to thoughtful exploration of different rivers, hatches, the problems and mechanics of casting, and flies. (6 x 9 1/4, 304 pages, illustrations)

This review is from: Becoming a Fly Fisher: From Brookie Days to the Tenth Level (Hardcover)
Becoming a Fly Fisher is a beautifully written book. John Randolph has a talent for painting a picture in the mind of the reader where you share the love he has for his family, friends and fly fishing.

The book is filled with wonderful stories of hunting fish on a fly from all over the world. Randolph takes us to to great places to fish that we can endeavor to reach in our time. Of killer flies and matching the hatch. Of teachers and mentors that have come before him and that have made countless contributions to the sport.

This book is not a fly fishing manual. It uses fly fishing to help us see our place in nature, and what a wonderful opportunity we have in being part of it. We get a great chance to look into the heart of someone truly at the tenth level and each of us will take something different away from this book.

Enjoy it.
