More About the Author

Elfrieda (Freddy) H. Hiebert is President and CEO of TextProject, Inc., a not-for-profit aimed at increasing student-reading levels through appropriate texts. She is also a research associate at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Hiebert received the Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has worked in the field of early reading acquisition for over 40 years, as a teacher in central California and as a university-based teacher educator and researcher. Dr. Hiebert has published numerous research articles, chapters and academic books. Dr. Hiebert's model of accessible texts for beginning and struggling readers--TExT--has been used to develop a number of reading programs that are widely used in schools, including QuickReads, QReads, and Zip Zoom.
