Book Description

February 1, 2005

Becoming Who God Intended answers the heart questions of those who are deeply frustrated with their Christian life:

  • Is it “normal” that my emotional experience doesn’t match up with the Bible?
  • Why do I feel “alive” only when I engage in habitual sins and compulsions?
  • Do I just have to live with anxiety, anger, shame, and depression?

Every person’s “heart life” is filled with pictures of reality—often false ones, says David Eckman. But as believers use the truth of their new identity in Christ to develop biblical pictures, they will be able to truly accept God’s acceptance of them, be freed from negative emotions and habitual sins...and finally experience a life that matches what Scripture promises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Experience transforming intimacy with God the Father!, March 22, 2005
This review is from: Becoming Who God Intended: A New Picture for Your Past, A Healthy Way of Managing Your Emotions, A Fresh Perspective on Relationships (Paperback)

How do you personally experience the transforming intimacy with the Father so kindly offered to us in Jesus? Living openly and freely with the Father provides the joy we all seek and the power we all need. At times the sorrow of trapped lives and broken relationships in our churches become more than our souls can endure.

Is the Gospel truly transformational? Can the Holy Spirit perform the life changes today that we rejoice in reading about on the pages of the New Testament? How does it happen? Really, how does God set a heart free and keep it from enslavement to the flesh and it's appetites? Where's the joy that Jesus promised and died for?

Dr. David Eckman has answered these questions for me from the pages of scripture. God has used David in my life, and that of thousands of others to walk us down the biblical path of freedom, joy, and a rich experience of the Father's affection. David is a biblical scholar who opens treasure chests of scriptural truth that allow us to see just how good and powerful our Savior really is.

For your own delight and for life-change and freedom I'd encourage you to pour over the pages of Dr. David Eckman's
"Becoming Who God Intended", by Harvest House publishers. Get this book into your hands or someone you know and watch their hearts and lives experience the freedom that Jesus paid so dearly to give them.

5.0 out of 5 stars College Professor / Church and small group member, March 31, 2005

God doesn't see us from a distance or is He dispassionate towards mankind. God has a pure love and passion that most know but can not feel. Becoming Who God Intended puts into focus the reality of God's love for you.
I have known for quite some time that God loves me and He is in control of my life, but at the same time I didn't have the emotional connection. Instead I felt fear, anxiety, and shame for my past, my present, and my future. It's one thing to ask for forgiveness, but how do you feel forgiven? How can Jesus look at me with love when I commit the same sins over and over? After reading Dr. Eckman's book and heart filled prayer the shame, fear, and anxiety has been replaced with the love, peace, and joy from the Holy Spirit.
This is not a self help book. It uses the Word of God as the foundation, it helps identify roadblocks that prevent a deep spiritual connection, and it offers solutions for a passionate relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
