3.0 out of 5 stars Just ok
Pros: It's a fast read and it's free.
Cons: It's too short for me to agree with the "thought-provoking" comment someone else gave it.
Summary: This book has one or two lines of original ideas but most of it is you looking up scripture on your own.
And in the interest of full-disclosure, yes, I am a Christian.

This review is from: Becoming a Woman of Freedom (Paperback)
Becoming a Woman of Freedom is a great growing tool for chronic worriers. Not only is the topic of worry addressed (along with many other things) the book constatnly takes the reader back to God's Word, to see what He has to say about the subject.

The book is an easy to read, thought provoking study and addresses those things that slow us down or hinder us as we "run the race" of the Christian life.

Always, in this book, there is a focus on Christ and how He lived His life. What a great example to follow!

The format is flexible in that each study can be used individually, or in a group.

Becoming a Woman of Freedom was a birthday present from my husband and is one of the best he could have gotten. Working through this study has uplifted, encouraged and challenged me. God has worked greatly through this book to help me grow in Him!

Hallelujah!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bible study for women, March 2, 2008
This book was used by a group of 11 college age women as a Bible study. One primary goal of the study was to spend time in God's Word and learn how to go deeper in our relationship with the Lord in applying scriptural principles to our lives and our relationships with others. This is the second Cynthia Heald study book we have used, with very positive feedback from the women involved in the study. It has generated great discussion, bringing relevant life issues under scrutiny as to how we live and incorporate our faith in a genuine way with our behavior and thought patterns.
There are rich quotes from men and women of the Christian faith and the study questions go deep into scripture, challenging the participants to spend quality time in His Word as we seek to know His will and desire for how we are to live our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great study book, December 20, 2010

Great book, easy to read. I reading through this book with a group of women, and all of us appreciate the length of the chapters (good content, but short enough to not feel overwhelming) and the way that this study gets us consistently reading Bible passages and verses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Packs A Punch, October 27, 2009

Although this book is not very long, and I took the study class at my church on a whim as sort of 'light reading,' the book could better be described as succinct. Heald gets right to the point, backs everything up scripturally, and opens your eyes to some of the things you are doing, perhaps subconsciously. I like Cynthia Heald's style. In an era when women don't have much time to themselves, her simple books can make a remarkable difference in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure for Anyone Seeking True Freedom, May 16, 2011

Becoming a Woman of Freedom is a bible study that I will be recommending to other women looking for a deeper study on living a life of freedom in Christ. The biblical teachings are sound and the quotes used bring additional clarity to the message. The writing style is very easy to follow and each chapter can be done within one day making this a study that can be completed in a short time.

I enjoyed that the author gave her own personal take on each chapter then prompts the reader to reflect on how the message affects her life. I totally enjoyed this read and look forward to visiting it again in the future when I need a refresher course on living the Spirit-filled life.

Really great book to challenge your fears and hangups. Cynthia Heald is a graceful writer but not afraid to be tough with Scripture and insightful questions to help you examine the areas in your life that haven't been transformed by the freeing power of God.

Our small group Bible Study used this book as a guide last summer, and we really enjoyed it! The lessons are brief but include a lot of scripture, straightforward and applicable questions, and I also love the quotes from authors and notable theologians. It's deep enough for those who have been in their faith for a long time but also approachable for those who are newer to the Christian life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bible Study, August 25, 2010
I had never used a Cynthia Heald study before, but this was great! I used it with two different groups of women, and every single one shared how God used this study to bring conviction, healing and freedom to different areas in their life. At first I thought it would be a little simplistic, but she points you back to the Word over and over, and the Word of God is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword!

One woman had to drop out of the group study but continued it on her own and said that it blessed her doing it as an invidual study.

I've done a lot of different Bible studies- this one challenged and stretched me as both a leader and a participant. The more time you put into it, the more you'll get out of it. Having the focus verse for the chapter was also a good challenge for memorization. Cynthia listened to the Holy Spirit when writing this book-and it was a blessing to both myself and the women in our studies. We're getting ready to start another one of hers- Becoming a Woman of Purpose- and am excited to see how God will use this new study too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for a great study?, February 7, 2010

I'm leading a small group who are doing this study. The chapters deal with common struggles (such as laying aside the past, people pleasing, bitterness, busyness, anxiety or fears) and help to build faith. The length isn't overwhelming but still offers good food for thought.
